John Conway, a mathematician who invented the rules for the Game of Life, has been taken by the coronavirus.

His rules worked on a grid in which each square was either on (alive) or off (not alive).
1. BIRTHS: A non-alive square adjacent to exactly three alive neighbours becomes alive.
2. SURVIVAL: An alive square with two or three alive neighbours remains alive.
3. DEATHS: An alive square with one or fewer alive neighbours dies.
4. DEATHS BY OVERCROWDING: An alive cell with four or more live neighbours dies.

He created the rules in 1970 without the use of computers, but since then computers have been used to create awesome repeating patterns.

Someone even managed to program the rules of Game of Life using the Game of Life.

Even an 8-bit programmable computer has been built entirely from the Game of Life.

Cool.
I merely sent a card saying "Sorry for your loss". Should've drawn a cartoon on it maybe.
