Title: Respect and Honour
Post by: Mince on June 21, 2020, 11:20:49 AM
It's time for all you elderly wizened wise and seasoned elders to begin imparting some of your wisdom to the younger generation.

So, two honest questions.

What is the difference between honour and respect and how would you teach the two to kids?

Don't think I'd bother trying to explain 'honour' to small children - it's not a concept they need to know about till later.

'Respect' is much simpler - be nice to people, until or unless they prove they don't deserve it. Respect should be automatic. It can only be lost, regained, and enhanced. It should never be required to be earned.

That'll be 50 quid, ta.

Tarq's pricey advice is spot on regarding respect.

I think of honour more as an act of doing something, most often in memory, but also in celebration  - for instance today for Father's Day I made a kiva loan in honour of my father (deceased) to a farmer in Nigeria.
