Diane, you're a star. I shall enjoy reading that at my leisure. It needs to have it's own special place on the website - I'll get Mince on to it shortly.
Of course, you do realise that now you've started, we'll be looking out for the complete set over time. ;D

Er.. I'm the one who stickied Diane's post, Tarks! Is my special sticky place not good enough? ::)
-
I love the "Let's get Roger in trouble" disclaimer.
I volunteer to do Book 3, if someone volunteers to do Book 2.
peter volunteers (he'll find out later) to do Book 4.
Oh, and excellent work, Dianne.

I'm the one who moved it here, and edited it a bit, so I have a greater claim.

EM I am the one who does not know what you are talking about. If you wait twenty years I will get around too it.
I had a round towit but used it up last week, if I only known.

On second thoughts, I'll do it myself.
-
Look - I stuck it, or rather, stickied it, where Diane posted it. I saw it had been moved, and I agree that you were right to move it, Mince, as it is in a more appropriate place, but I didn't want to do that myself as it may have looked like an abuse of power, and a form of censorship even.

Now you listen here! I saw you stickied/stuck it but you didn't do what Dianne asked, which was to move it to the "Just a Fort" forum, so you abused your power by stuckying it somewhere she didn't want it stickified. I, on the other hand, I fulfilled her wish.
-
I fulfilled her wish.
You still believe in genies, eh, Mincey? Now where have I heard that before?...
-
I am a genie.
-
Did she actually say, "Move it to the Beau Peep Forum"? She'd have posted it there in the first place if that was what she'd wanted. She's not stupid.
Thanks for making the BP1 pages, Diane. I really enjoyed reading them.

Yes, it said in the post to sticky it in "Just a Fort". Okay, it doesn't say that now because I edited the post, but it did, and I am sure Dianne will confirm that I am right. However, despite the fact that you can't read, I shall be the bigger man and thank you for doing the initial stickying, even though I could have done it myself anyway.
-
Well, that went fairly fuss free. ::)
Yes, I did write to 'stick a link to it in the Just a Fort forum' - however since Mince always spells my name wrong and Peepmaster doesn't - it is hard to say who is right and who is wrong.
If you see any pages without navigations or other mistakes please let me know before the Christmas rush of guests to view the book #1 website.

Mince always spells my name wrong
Mince?.... Wrong?....

There you go! Exonerated of these vile accusations! ;D
Diane, I was trying so hard to spell your name correctly, I spelt it wrong.
Diane, be clearer next time. These fights you keep starting are not healthy for the board.
-
Does anyone have Book 2?

Did you notice, Diane, that it all worked out to be your fault. That's the burden us females must carry throughout our lives! :D
-
Thanks for all the work, Diane, although, as I said before, I cringe at a lot of that early stuff.
And if I get taken to court by the publishers, I'll expect a whip-round for legal fees!
-
It is a good thing that people who sue don't target those who require 'a whip-round' Roger. Now, that fella who wrote The Far Side - he would need to worry.
Anyway I have a good argument; it is the publishers that should be sued - they should not have quit at book #19 - I will counter-sue for emotional damages if they start any funny business.
I hope a lot of people will have time to visit the site over the holidays; it is fun to see the early characters. The Nomad sure has shrunk hasn't he - not enough calcium in his diet?
And is it just me or did Dennis used to be smarter?
-
Actually, Diane, I don't think the original publishers still exist so I doubt if we'll have a problem.
I suppose all the characters developed over the years in one way or another. Beau is slimmer, the Nomad is shorter and...well...I'm not sure if Dennis was any smarter back then. Originally, he couldn't read but these days he can get through the odd comic book.
Over the past 29 years, I might even have changed a tad myself. Just a tad.
-
Brilliant stuff. Thanks a lot for posting this Diane.
And I suppose Roger should get some credit, what with writing it and everything.
-
Is anyone going to do Book #2 or later? Is there any legal problems with posting any of the remaining books (as you can't buy them in bookshops any more). I have books 8 and 10-19. (our family started late in being BP readers).
-
eBay is your friend.
I managed to get the early books from there dead cheap. The only one which cost a fair bit was Book #1.
While I'm here... did Roger ever explain the whole Bert/Beau thing?
-
Originally, I decided to call the main character Bert "Beau" Peep. The "Bert" part was always going to be dropped and I think it was only ever used once in the strip. I suppose I was trying to show that "Beau" was a nickname. I have no idea why!
-
What were all the other characters' nicknames?
-
"Nigel".
-
Another reaction I had upon eventually getting Book 1 was surprise that, assuming this IS Doris, she wasn't quite as terrifying/hairy/gargantuan as I was expecting based on Beau's comments I'd read in all the later books.

-
I really don't have any defence for this. That was simply the first idea that came into my head when I decided to try and write a Foreign Legion strip----I hadn't a clue where the whole thing was leading. Later, when it started being published, it made more sense to have the woman Beau left behind portrayed as the cliched ugly, fat reason he joined up. I ignored the first strip completely.
-
But... She's gorgeous! I won't sleep tonight with her in my heart...

She looks like the Colonel's daughter. Is anyone going to do Book #2 or later? Is there any legal problems with posting any of the remaining books (as you can't buy them in bookshops any more). I have books 8 and 10-19. (our family started late in being BP readers).
I now have books 4,5 and the colour collection. Books 7 & 9 are coming, having 'won' them on eBay. Just books 1, 2 and 3 to get now (but 1 is on this site). Hooray, and thanks again, Diane 8) :)
-
Well Mr Shed, this could be interesting. Spookily enough, I too am lacking only books 1,2 and 3. Race you to ebay...
(PS Amazon does them from time to time too, but ebay is invariably cheaper).

Sandi, Check the date on my post (2010...). I have given up checking on ebay, and have read them online now. I intend to print out the screens on that other BP site to complete my collection, and will buy the real things once they are available at a reasonable cost.
-
Bilge-pump-the-shed, I still only need Book 1 to complete my collection.

Rich bugger >:(
But ... I do have 3 fully servicable BP mugs, and one handleless one, retired to the desktop as a pen holder (even has its own 'Help for Heroes' rubber wriststrap for added effect).
-
I got Book 1 for Christmas a couple of years ago. Still no idea where Mrs Egg got it from, EBay, collector, shop......read it just the once, put it back in it's special box and it stands at the front of my full collection of BP books. 8)
Don't have a mug though! :-\
-
You have Peepmaster.

2010...so that's ten past eight then?
Good for you though, Bill. Please do stay away from ebay until I get my No.1. Tried to treat myself to one a few years ago at Christmas and only managed to push the bidding to a huge, unreasonable, fall-out-with-your-partner type amount before I had to bottle out. I always wondered who bought it.

Don't worry. Still unpacking and have no money for works of art yet. I do have a large collection of stamps that I must start getting rid of - even if I just use them as postage. Mind you, not sure who to write to.
-
Just check with the post office what sort of parcel weight/size you could post with them all. If your lucks in, you could drive to a suprermarket, fill the boot with shopping, cover the car in stamps and wait for it to be posted back to you. Voila, one journey's worth of petrol saved, stamps all used...win win situation.
-
one is a £5 stamp, worth at least £50 to a collector. I'm not using that one at face value.
-
£5 ? Does it come with specially flavoured glue?
-
It's the new inflation-proof first class stamp (only valid until 2013).
