Egon Ronay.
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:26:57 PM »
It was sad to hear of the death of Egon Ronay----the world-famous chef who inspired the name of a certain cook in Beau Peep.
Many years ago, I met a cartoonist called Mark Grant (He went on to write a T.V. sitcom called Perfect World, starring Paul Kaye). At the time, he and his wife were friendly with Edina Ronay, the great man's daughter. I learned through them that the original Egon was hugely amused by his namesake and, if I remember correctly, I sent an original, signed strip to him.
Presumably, he's upstairs at the moment working on a new recipe for ambrosia.
Cheers, Egon.

Here's to a life well lived.  :)
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

I hadn't realised Egon Ronay had died until I saw a piece in Lucy's paper yesterday. The thing I liked was that for all his love of haute-cuisine, the accompanying photo showed him tucking into an English breakfast fry-up!
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟
