Title: Suggestions?
Post by: Roger Kettle on November 14, 2008, 08:05:27 PM
I suddenly realised that this is the time of year when  I set some kind of  Christmas competition. After giving it 20 minutes thought---far too much on a Friday evening---I have come up with nothing. Any ideas? We need a competition that is fair to all who visit the site. (The annual disclaimer is that any obscure Beau Peep questions would see Rob Baker win every year). The prize will be three originals---a Beau Peep, a Horace and an Andy Capp. Peeps? Tarks? Mince? You won't be allowed to win anyway so any suggestions?

How about a karaoke contest?

Why don't you make that the competition, Roger?

To come up with a good competition - best one wins... that way, you'll get a couple of ideas for the next few years too!

The Great Beau Peep Forum Competition Competition 2008. It's got a ring to it!  ;D

Or a karaoke contest.

I'd go with the karaoke idea if people posted their efforts on here!

Well, that's the lads sorted: what can us girls do that doesn't involve getting hammered?

Vulch, I fear this may attract the odd sexist comment.

I take no pleasure in watching somebody washing-up, Roger....

I just hope it isn't something that involves any amount of creativity. I'm always hopeless at those.

If I'm not allowed to win then tell me why I should bother even taking part? I've already got the quiz for that, thanks to Ms Smartypoo.  :\

Grossly unfair, not allowing me to win the strips. I could make a tidy packet from them on eBay.

I suggest a competition where one does something interesting with a potato.

I could do something interesting with a potato (with Mince's assistance, of course).  :\

There's an obvious comeback here, but I'll avoid it.

It looks like I'm going to have to come up with something myself. I'll get back to you.

Hang on, us in the antipodes have just logged on, so don't be so hasty, how do you know WE haven't got any ideas?

Ok, for the technically minded among you, let's see your best alternative Beau Peep, Horace or Andy Capp character hairdo.

For those who don't have Photoshop skills, er.....tough.

Oh alright, how about creating a funny or interesting pic (of any kind) using only letters/symbols of your keyboard?

How about the captions for FIVE Beau Peep strips. At least then you could put them to good use later.

Beau: Egon, sometimes in a dish it's what you leave out that makes it unique.

Egon: Like what?

Beau: Like your thumb.

I think that's an old Blacknose The Pirate gag, but the ship's cook was virtually an Egon clone so it's Roger's really.

If you do have Karaoke, we'd need a song with simple lyrics that Mince might have a chance of remembering.  ..0

And just how drunk do the listeners have to be to appreciate this song?

Okay, it's been decided. I've just been talking to Peeps and, tomorrow, he's going to post a Horace strip with the speech balloons removed. Your job will be to come up with new, funny dialogue. The competition will be open to EVERYONE so one or two professional cartoonists will be involved. My judgment will be hard but fair.
On the down side, Peeps insisted on singing some songs to me over the phone that he will be performing tonight at his local karaoke. Oh, Lord.

As president of the Canadian Beau Peep Fan Club, I would like to officially complain about a point of order on behalf of our membership. We do not feel it is right that Beau Peep has been ousted from the Beau Peep Christmas Competition by that little upstart Horace.

We are unanimous in our displeasure.

Diane, let's start a rebellion and have our own competition. Beau Peep all the way.

Mince doesn't like the idea of using a Horace strip... I haven't chosen the strip yet, but it will definitely be a Horace strip now!

Diane, I don't drink tea. Can you make mine a Southern Comfort - make that a double. Ta.

Hey, Peeps, whatever strip you choose, don't go blabbing about the competition on other sites. This happened a couple of years ago and we were inundated with extremely rude entries from cartoonists with far too much time on their hands. The winner, hopefully, will be one of our regulars.

Ah, but since then, Tarks and Malcolm have become much-loved regulars, haven't they?
