Title: A Gap In The Music Market.
Post by: Roger Kettle on October 10, 2009, 09:04:41 PM
Keep this quiet, but I think I've stumbled across a musical goldmine---the older generation. I can hear you scoff already. There are LOADS of nostalgic music stations playing stuff from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Ah, yes, but these are just bitter/sweet REMINDERS of our youth. Nobody is writing songs with lyrics about BEING in an older generation. They're all about pimply youth and something called "getting it down" or "shaking booties". I have a friend who has a recording studio in his house and I'm off to record "Don't you wish your Grandad was hot like me?" This can't fail.

You've hit on something here, Roger.

Like I said, Nige, it's a musical goldmine.
"Anyone Who Had A Heart Attack".
"Knights In White Satin Incontinence Pants".
"I Remember You (vaguely, but I can't place the name)".

I am REALLY sorry I started this.

I'm not sure if I would download the tune or wait for the music DVD.

Erm... does anyone actually know the lyrics to 'Greensleeves'? Pimply youths and all that...

You could Google that in less than the time it took to type the post.

This will inevitably deteriorate into a thread about humorous song titles, but Roger touched on a very salent point. There are no songs about BEING old (or in my case middle-aged) at least not any new ones.
Interestingly, the Beatles wrote a couple of age-related songs (When I'm Sixty Four being one) when they were young men, but the Fab Four were musical artists in a long tradition of songwriters who wrote stuff that would touch something in other people, not production line pap such as we see today, in movies AND the recording industry.
So instead of providing examples of reworked song titles, I'd like to engage in a serious intellectual discussion on this.

Ah, bugger that. Some age-related song titles don't need to be reworked anyway.

Crazy by Patsy Cline
There Goes My Heart (Nat King Cole)
All Through The Night (Cindy Lauper)
Catch Me I'm Falling
Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (U2)
I Want A New Drug (Huey Lewis And The News)
