Where and when did "My bad!" start? Is it someone's catchphrase? Is it a contraction of "am I bad?"?
It is very irritating.
-
YOU'RE very irritating!
-
YOU are. (Hah! Let's see you come back from that!)
-
I always thought 'my bad' meant 'oops'.
Could be wrong though... :-\
-
It was when Ian Botham had a cold.
-
It's short for "It is my bad" which is in turn short for "It is my bad use of the English language that is leading me to use this phrase, instead of the more traditional 'Whoopsie Daisy!'"
Or really, it's an annoying substitution of the word "mistake" with the word "bad", despite "bad" really being an adjective, and not a noun.
-
Thanks, Jack. I have no idea if you're right or not but it's a really annoying expression. My bad, indeed. Aaargh!
-
Tom's right.
-
Jack could be right too but he lost me at Whoopsie Daisy!
-
It's actually a contraction of "my bad choice" and it can apply to words or deeds. It started about five years ago, and has been increasing yearly to the extent it's now universal, even making inroads to Australia.
It's part of the living language of course, and belongs in the same category as:
"24-7",
"OH. MY. GOD.",
"are you serious?"
"loo-oo...ZERRRR"
-
YOU are. (Hah! Let's see you come back from that!)
That's what you say!
-
Took you a while, though.
-
That's what you say!
-
Absolutely
is another pain in the rear
what's wrong with ' yes '.
