Title: Renting DVDs by Post
Post by: Mince on April 22, 2010, 11:21:38 AM
Dear LOVEFiLM

In your email about my missing discs you wrote:

"Here's what you need to do:"

I believe your missing discs are YOUR problem with Royal Mail. I have done nothing wrong. I don't "need" to do anything, other than sit back and see how you deal with me going a whole week without any DVDs. You may ASK me to complete the P91 form, however, which I will be pleased to do.

"Please note that if Royal Mail do NOT receive the complete P91 form, a £10.00 charge may be added to your account so we can replace the missing disc."

No, I don't think so. Please rectify the above statement. I am NOT being charged £10 for what is basically YOUR problem with Royal Mail. Perhaps having some trust in your new members might not go amiss. It's bad enough going seven days without DVDs without you implying that I might have stolen the DVDs as well.

I have never rented a dvd from Lovefilm.

I used to use their online store to purchase dvds on occasion, but one time I ordered a set of DVDs (in September) as a christmas present. Come November, and after much hassling via email, they eventually responded with what amounted to "Erm... sorry... it turns out we don't actually have that item to sell..."

They'd basically just listed something for sale, despite not having any in stock, and having no way of getting any in stock. And rather than contact me to apologise or cancel my order, they just let the order sit there unfulfilled, and it seems like they'd have been more than happy to keep me waiting forever and ever, just on the off chance that one of their employees came across the set at a car boot sale or something.

I've never ordered anything through Lovefilm since. Useless gits.

I don't really like those kind of films anyway.

Dear Malcolm,

Thank you for your recent email.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to you.

Please be assured that we have taken the necessary action today to ensure you are not subject to any charges as a result of the P91 form not reaching you. Should it arrive at any point in the future, we would be most grateful if you would complete it and return it to Royal Mail as per the instructions on it.

We would like to inform you that as a gesture of goodwill we have added 7 free days to your account as a compensation for the delay caused in the dispatch of the titles.

Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Should you have any more questions, please let us know and we will be happy to assist you.

Good to see that they addressed your clearly stated concerns about the P91 form not reaching you...

Oh, wait.

Good for you Mince.

I order in DVDs through inter-library loan - can keep them for 1-3 weeks, no charge and they have some cool TV series and Masterpiece theater etc that you don't find in your local rental shop. No idea when they are going to come mind you. Right now I have 500 Days of Summer sitting here which only came out in 2009. I just took back a dog training DVD from the monks of New Skete and a Russian war film called Alexandra.

Watching DVDs at night would keep me away from the pub, so that's no good.

Beer doesn't drink itself you know! ..0
