Fantastic, Nige---everything looks amazing. Does Lucy's parents' shop stock Beau Peep books?
-
Awsome shots Nige - from the city to the country - it all looks so exotic.
-
Loved the show ;D
-
Great photos, Nige. Had a quick peep - will spend more time perusing later.
-
Hmm - they're all right, I suppose. I have a couple of snaps of our day trip to Llandudno if anyone's interested?
-
Lovely. It all looks like downtown Brisbane. Except for the Sampans.
That's globalization for ya.

I like Llandudno. A very elegant town, and (unusually for a British seaside resort these days), quite smart.
We've headed south from Manila now and are staying tonight in Tagaytay, which has commanding views over Lake Taal and the Taal Volcano (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/be/Taal_View_from_Tagaytay_2010.JPG). It's amazing looking down onto a volcano. I drove part of the way here. I was feeling very brave!
Incidentally, the volcano has just been raised to level 2 alert, and local inhabitants have recently been moved from the island. I'll probably have a few San Miguels tonight to help me sleep soundly...

I like this photo, and how it seems as though the bottom right corner is folded over:

That would have been the front of the boat.
We've since headed north on Palawan to a place called El Nido. It's quite stunning, but arduous to get to.
I was delighted to find that I'd inadvertently tracked down Roger Kettle's long-lost twin brother, who proudly declared he was born in 1925!

Now I'm really not sure, Peeps. You're the one on the right...no.. left..erm..OK. I give in. Which one's you?
-
Not the one in the trendy red shirt and stylish headband, that's for sure. Boy, were you shown up, Peepsie!
-
I enjoyed looking at the pictures, and I liked Lucy's handbag.
Just a couple of things about the buddy-pic:
1. In the photo of Nigel with the elderly gentleman, it looks like Nigel's head has been stuck on someone else's body, or else another man's head has been stuck on Nigel's body.
2. I am almost afraid to ask this, but what is written on Nigel's t-shirt?
-
Feather, whatever it is you think you can see, that's what it is!
-
But don't get blown away by it.
-
Feather, whatever it is you think you can see, that's what it is!
Oh my. How nice for Lucy.

Yes. I reckon she's really proud to walk next to him when he's wearing it!
-
I'm not really the World's Flatulence Champion of 1981. It was a £2 T-shirt I found in Asda a couple of years back. This place is so hot, a shirt doesn't last long before getting soaked, so I'll wear anything.
I've been suffering with a bit of a head cold and a temperature over the last couple of days. (This always happens to me when I come here.) Anyway, what's best when one is suffering and in need of plenty of bed-rest?
Well, Lucy dragged me out on a grueling half-day trek...

Probably as a punishment for wearing that shirt.

And yet you somehow survived it. ;D
-
Not really. I already had about 20 "Nik Nik" bites on my legs from when we stayed by a mangrove swamp in Puerto Princesa. The trek has added about 30 NEW bites all over my body. I'm just a magnet for anything that bites it seems...

Again, how nice for Lucy.

She adores my "new look".

Stay away from Jim Davidson, then.

;D ;D ;D

Been out of action for a couple of days. Tried to log-in earlier but was getting error messages. Finally succeeded.
That trek didn't do me any good at all. Apart from the millions of bites, I got overheated and had headaches on the journey. I thought I was feeling better that night when I last posted here, but I was very feverish after going to bed. The next day we were due to head back south to the airport to fly back to Manila, so I had no option other than to endure the seven-hour bus journey, with a large box of tissues and a streaming nose, before getting the plane.
I spent all next day in bed. I did have a Sunday paper delivered to the room, (and had a chuckle at the Andy Capp strip within). Lucy went out for much of the day, with a long list of things she wanted to do, and eventually returned buzzing with news about what she'd achieved. Lots of positive things regarding the business mainly. She's sorted things with a couple of supplier-contacts, fixed up a bank meeting, arranged for some printing to be done, and even managed to get several people interested in investing potentially. She's also arranged a meeting for later when we will see if these offers of investment are viable. When I told her my news, that I'd had a little bit of diarrhoea, it didn't sound quite so interesting after that.
Anyway, Lucy persuaded me to get up and have a small bowl of soup in the hotel restaurant, which I didn't feel I wanted at the time, but as I hadn't eaten for two days she was getting concerned. I actually enjoyed it, and did feel better having eaten it, so it was the right decision, (although I was soon back in bed, as I was still feeling far from 100%).
I have to say at this point that Lucy's been a real "Florence Nightingale" this week. My excruciating discomfort of a million insect bites has been gradually relieved as she's carefully applied a local "dragon balm" ointment to each and every one, and at regular intervals too, all without complaint, even when I had to wake her to do so. She's always had a marvelous gift for massaging my aches and pains away. She can feel where the "knots" are, and her magic thumbs put things right, especially if I'm irritable, because she's turned up late or something. I don't know what I'd have done without her on this trip, to be honest, and when I think back to the early days of our relationship, when I was still "playing the field" and persistently tried to dump her, I'm glad in a way that I didn't succeed and that she kept her claws in me! Funny how life turns out. Maybe I'm not the best judge of all things after all.
I'm feeling a lot better tonight, which is just as well as we're off exploring north of Manila tomorrow. I'll be sharing the driving with Lucy's brother. I'm hoping to manage a couple of ice-cold San Miguels tonight, and a small glass of red wine as a treat for Lucy. (She can't drink much without being ill, which is an added bonus on the pocket.)

P.S. I just thought of a gag. Woman on way to slimming class:
"I've had no self-control this past week."
"If I've lost any weight, I'll eat my hat".
"There, you see!!"

Maybe I can sell it to Roger... ..0

;D
Nige, for the sake of your holiday business and your personal life, you're way too honest, my friend!
-
Wonderful update, Nige.
I seem to recall that they have extremely good value sparkly rings for sale in that neck of the woods.
-
No they don't. It's actually reconditioned engine parts, heavy timber furniture, and fish-pellets.
-
Whatever you do, do not offer up any sparkly thing to Lucy made up of reconditioned engine parts, heavy timber furniture, or fish-pellets. You WILL regret it.
-
I actually slept well last night, and woke to find tree branches decorating the streets around the hotel, plus a massive Manila-wide power cut (which has lasted all day). The first typhoon of the season apparently - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10629243 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10629243) (Not sure if you can read that in the UK.)
Lots of clean-up work going on. Glad we're in this comfortable hotel in the Makati city area. Also glad we didn't set out north as originally planned. (We had got wind of the storm, no pun intended, and cancelled the trip.)
-
Hooray - I've been trying to post all day, and keep getting error messages, This happens most days. I've emailed Mince several times, but had no reply. Is anyone else having these problems?
-

Yup. It's in English.

Nope. All working fine here in Blighty.

He has replied now. It doesn't seem to be a wide-spread problem. I was wondering if folk in Oz and Canada etc were getting similar errors.
Billy the Shed - I realise it is in English, it's just that the BBC website looks all different lately (maybe a redesign), and it's also plastered with adverts here, which it isn't in the UK, so I can't be 100% sure links will work.
-
Sorry Peeps, I was trying to be sarcastic. Hope you are better now and can continue telling us about your travels. It's nice to know that the Beeb still has influence around the world. It's just a pity that we can't see the podcasts or tv highlights outside the UK. And yes, they have just redesigned BBC websites. I'm still trying to find my way around.
Good idea to stay put during the typhoon - looks like it was a hard time for the islands there.
-
It didn't affect me at all, cocooned in my comfortable hotel room, and as I said, I slept through it entirely! I'm very fortunate.
-
Is that cocooned or mummified?
-
Well I had had a few San Miguels the night before...
-
And I thought you fancied Lucy!
-
Lucy always looks better after a few San Miguels.
"You look more lovely with every drink", is my favourite chat-up line.
-
Take Cover !!! Incoming comments from the female side of this forum. (notice I did not say 'girly' as this would now have to include the self-confessed Roger and Tarks)
-
..0 ;D After you very nearly warmed the cockles of my heart with with your earlier post, Peeps, I see you've reverted to your old self.
Your typhoon was on the news here the other day - good to hear you weren't caught up in it. Re the error messages - I do sometimes get them during the day here. I just assume they're doing upkeep or something and I can usually get on when I come back later.
Hope you're feeling better now, if so, you'd better believe you wouldn't be without the ministrations of the gorgeous Lucy!
-
She's been useful to have along, I'll grant you, Joan.
I have so many error messages when I'm trying to post or log-in. Like you say, Mince might be tinkering away late into the night, shutting down access to the servers, etc. He's done so much to change the way this forum operates, but I think he means well.
That reminds me. We went to Ocean Park in Manila today, to see all manner of other aquatic species. We dipped our feet into pools of "Doctor Fish". Weird experience, but you get used to it eventually. The fish bite away at any dead skin cells, and it is freaky at first. You can feel the individual bites, and there can be a dozen or so working on each foot/leg. Once you trust what's happening, it's quite relaxing.
-
Oooh, I've seen that on Getaway. I bet it's a very strange sensation.
It could be the people who run the forum servers who are doing the maintenance, rather than Mince, or it could just be lack of communication between us and them on the other side of the world. Not quite sure what I'm saying there - glitches in the system, I think!
