I got the bus to Dundee today on my way to watch United (they won 1-0, you'll all be pleased to know). Anyway, there was an elderly man and woman sitting in front of me---I think they were neighbours, rather than a couple---and they were having a conversation about holidays. The following is almost word for word....
Her: I've always wanted to see the Mona Lisa.
Him: Really?
Her: Yeah, it looks fantastic but I've only seen pictures of it. Princess Diana was there, sitting on her own by the water. It just looked so beautiful.
Him: Princess Diana by the water? Do you mean the Taj Mahal?
Her: Yes, the Taj Mahal. What did I say?
Him: The Mona Lisa.
Her: Oh, what an idiot! I meant the Taj Mahal, not that painting!
There was a slight pause.
Her: It IS a painting, isn't it?
When I got off the bus, I almost thanked her for my next Dennis script.

Yes, you could tell they weren't a couple because it wasn't him that said: "What an idiot!" - maybe they were in the first blush of courting?

:D Love it!

She was probably getting confused with Nat King Cole who, as well as singing Mona Lisa, sang:
"The greatest wonder on this earth.
The taj mahal and other splendors
To me really have no worth. "
There's a lot of sake in this here Sake n' Bake :P

You must have had your hearing-aid really turned-up to eavesdrop on other people's conversations over the sound of the bus, Roger.

Not if his post-match pub session results in the classic forehead-leaning-on-the back-of-the-seat-in-front position.
