I'm writing a strip and the characters are being ribald. Don't ask me why I chose that word, it's a long story.
Another character comes in and says, "right, enough of this ribaldness!!" Is that the right word?
-
You could say "Enough of this joking around". Not sure what the proper word should be. Ribalding perhaps.
HELLO EVERYBODY!
-
Ribaldry.
Don't mention it!
-
Oh balls!
-
No, it's not ribaldry. >:(
Unless someone with a real sense of grammar confirms it, that is. ;)
-
Did I hear a call for someone with a real sense of grammar? 3 posts in one....
1. Subject guaranteed to bore anyone
2. Stop rude email exhorting me to post
3. Ribaldry is the English usage of the noun...our 'English'-speaking cousins across the Atlantic use ribald for both noun and adjective
boring enough? 8)
-
"Stop all this Ribena".
-
"Stop all this Ribena".
That's the one. ;D
I used to love being involved in all kinds of Ribena.
It's also good with apple crumble, rhubarb pie, custard...
-
I prefer apple sponge and rhubarb fool myself... not sure about the custard...
-
I like sponge bases also, Elizabeth. Custard does tend to make them rather limp, which I don't like. I'm no flim-flan man!
Plum duff and spotted dick...puddings have great comic potential.
-
Blancmange! ;D ;D ;D
-
Here's a trivia buff's dream: Custard, treacle and bakewell are all types of...?
-
I sense a "Q.I." moment. I say the word "tart" and flashing lights go off.
-
Bum!
-
Always the wordsmith, Tarks!
-
Quite!
Roger, what was the name of the eponymous small-time Cockney conman character that Adam Faith played in the long-running TV series in the 70's?
Ian Cuthbertson was in it, as a Glasgow villain called Charlie, and made a series of TV adverts for Agnews off-licenses as a spin-off with his character.
-
Budgie?
-
Brilliant! Thanks, mate. ;D
-
Tart!
-
What do you send your letters in, Roger?
-
I'm going to Manila in a couple of weeks, Roger. What does that word remind you of?
-
Don't tell him, Roger....tell ME!
-
I asked the questions, Roger, so when you reply, specifically direct the answer to me. Thank you.
-
And after that, Peepmaster has a confession to make.
-
I have no idea what is going on here. Envelope.
-
I have no idea what is going on here. Envelope.
Me neither.
But what if you had more than one letter, Roger?
-
I have no idea what is going on here. Envelope.
What, singular??
-
I repeat...what, singular?
-
Roger's answer, as it stands, doesn't go with either of my questions:
"What do you send your letters in, Roger?"
and
"I'm going to Manila in a couple of weeks, Roger. What does that word remind you of?"
-
Fish might be the same singular and plural, but most words aren't!
Roger?

Ladies an' Gentlemen - I give you....TOTAL DESPERATION! ::)
-
Why do you want me to say "envelopes"? WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?
-
He's rumbled us.
Roger, I feel it my duty to show you what Peepmaster has been doing behind your back.
Check out the "extra" forum, which has been hidden from you.
-
Did he ever actually put the stress on the second syllable of 'envelopes', making it the verb? Anyone?
-
No, he didn't.
