It's all getting embarrassing now. I'd like to see a break-away organisation formed, or at least I think England should follow Scotland's lead and never play in the World Cup again.
-
We invented the game, so why not reinvent Football but allow tackling and picking up the ball, giving more points for a goal, etc. Then we could export it to other like-minded countries.
-
We could even use an ovoid ball and change the name to rugby. ;D
-
Or Bugry
-
Or suck our thumbs.

This idea has obviously tickled you, Peepsie, since that's at least two forums you've brought it up in so far. To be fair, I think England kicked off their own World Cup boycotting campaign very effectively in South Africa last summer.
-
I spotted it as someone's comment on the BBC story, and, yes it did tickle me. Definitely deserving of a wider audience I felt. Did you not see my mention on Facebook too? I missed a trick not tweeting it though...
-
To be fair, Peepsie, I first heard the remark from a Glaswegian who'd phoned into Talksport's late night show several days ago, and laughed like a hollow drain. The best jokes against Scotland come from wur ain.
-
There was a time, not TOO long ago, when Scotland had actually qualified for more World Cups than England. Happy days...
-
Pity about not having won it though.
-
Did England? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_linesman)
-
Apparently, according to FIFA.
But who cares, it's just a game.
-
Yeah - I just double-checked. It was 4-2 in England's favour. 8)
-
When on earth was that?
-
1966 Lil, old girl.
Just the other day, your brother and I were reminiscing about England's glorious triumph and he advised me that the year 1966, which is of course indelibly imprinted on the brains of all Scotsmen, has an everyday non emetic use:
19 degrees Centigrade = 66 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
I believe the first international game England played after winning the 1966 World Cup was against Scotland, who beat England. Scotland so dominated the game that Jim Baxter at one stage took the ball to the corner flag and played keepie-uppy.
-
It was in 1967 and I was there---my first trip to Wembley and as good as it was ever going to get.
