After 15 Halloweens of posting here, I almost hesitate to ask once again this year...but is anyone dressing up or making any kind of effort at all, or will it be a case of shutting off the lights and hiding in the dark once again?
-
When I was younger I might have made the effort to dress up to look gruesome and scary. These days I don't bother.
-
Yep, same as usual, Diane. Keep lights to a minimum and hope the little buggers get the message.
I've never recovered from the year I had to give a 6 year-old several pounds of chocolate for murdering "Three Wheels On My Wagon". You should never tamper with the classics.

Halloween is actually my wedding anniversary. Hence, we've never really celebrated. Halloween, that is. It's now tradition for the family, to shut up shop, go to the pictures and not return till all the gits are home and in bed. I shall treat Mrs Buttcheeks to some popcorn. It's the least I can do.

In the Isle of Man we celebrate Hop-tu-Naa which predates Halloween. Lots of similarities to "trick or treat" etc, but the kids hollow out turnip lanterns, or "moots" as we call them, and have to sing for the treat, the most popular song being:
Hop-tu-Naa
My mother's gone away
And she won't be back until the morning
Jinnie the Witch flew over the house
To fetch the stick to lather the mouse
Hop-tu-Naa
My mother's gone away
And she won't be back until the morning
[Jinnie the witch was an alleged witch dating back to early 1700's]. Us poor kids used to make a bundle of stuff, kept us in sweet heaven for weeks afterwards.

Despite my best efforts, some tiny scroungers have been at my door. I have been told two jokes by six year-old children....
"Why do squirrels lie on ther backs? So they can play with their nuts."
"How do you know if diarrhoea runs in your family? It's in your genes."
I'm shocked, I am.

Was this before or after you torched the local Bobby in a wicker basket?

We went out for the day, and have only just got back to an egg-free front door. Result!

I made a lot of effort this year - I even got a can of Pledge out and polished up by garbage can lid.
I was an opera singer by the way, not a Viking. As we all know the real Vikings didn't have horns...
