I was working very hard today [I love saying that when it's not true], and I was as usual listening to music, and one track in particular got me thinking. I realised that I enjoyed this particular track as much now as I did when it was first released. Which got me thinking how many tracks had a similar 'feel' about them, and here's my top five. Not top five favourites, but the top five that has always stayed with me, the top five of the tracks I never skip over when they come up on random play. Feel free not to listen, I concede this was totally for my own amusement.
As far as I recall these were all originally released in the 1970's, and at number 5:

I just love that track, don't know why but it's just brilliant. At number 4 we have:

Almost worth it just for the terrible video, but it's a classic. Number 3:

This was a close call with number 2 which is:

And the song that started this little search?

Ah, an eclectic mix if ever there was one, Red. I particularly enjoyed the top three.
Ach, what the Heck - my intention was to do a little late night work, as is my wont, but I'd rather play...
So, here's my choices from round about the same era. These have all been known to make a grown man cry (not me...a mate of mine....ahem!).
The first is wonderfully evocative, and for me, intensely romantic. Even if it is all about a young lad's first bonk on a beach...

Next, there are many Gilbert songs I've enjoyed, then and now, but this one is my favourite...

Randy Edelman - bringing it home...
https://youtu.be/oYlnwVzK_GQ
Glenn Campbell... er....I'm detecting a theme developing... ???

And finally, when I first heard this, I was too young to get it, but I still loved it...and Karen Carpenter! Time has not diminished either, and these days the words ring clearer than ever.

Enough! I need to go listen to a couple of Death Metal tracks before I hit the hay. :-\

Well, I knew the ones by Elton John, Bobby Goldsboro, and the Carpenters. I have to admit that I do enjoy Neil Diamond, and will have to listen to more of his stuff.
-
That was an impressive sampling Tarqs, I hope we see some more. You got me on Goldsboro, and the Gilbert O'Sullivan track just missed my top five, I think it was his best. Randy Edelman was a great surprise, that one fell off my personal radar and it was a nice reminder. For Glen Campbell I considered Rhinestone Cowboy, and I agree on the Carpenters too. I'll keep a box of tissues on hand for...your friend.
Right now I'm off to play in the "garage" or "Tardis" as it is better known [it stores far more than the outside view would credit]. The plan is to gird the loins, summon some self control and throw out at least half of the stuff I have kept because "it might come in handy". Yes, I know that whatever I dispense with will prove vital next week, but equally I know that if I don't throw it out it will languish in there another ten years...
I'll take some seventies stuff with me, it'll help soften the blow. Maybe we'll get a few more samplings from anyone else seeking to avoid doing something else!

That's more like it.... talking sense at last ;D

With the passage of time, grey appearing in my hair and never being able to find my keys, I often feel like I am getting old - then I pop in here and see what REAL old people are listening to and feel like a spring chicken once again.
-
Gee, Diane, you're so.........what was the question again?
-
I ... feel like a spring chicken once again.
Is that a chicken filled with industrial toxins, human-transferable viruses, parasitic worms, excessive salt, neurotoxins, banned medications, glycotoxins, and antibiotics?

You need to change your name to Veggie Mince. But more urgently, you need to get off your high horse before I lamp you one! >:(

I can change my name to Quorn again. Anyway, just stick you fingers in your ears and say "Na Na Na, not listening!" ;D
[I was thinking of adding a photo of Jack Nicholson from A Few Good Men, but couldn't be bothered.]

Whilst not disqualifying myself from the "fond of fowl" brigade, it does seem to me that, weird as it may seem, we appear to have gone "off topic" somewhat. I am however always open to compromise:

I'm speechless, Redundant. Where you find these videos, why you know where to find them . . .
-
Are you seriously trying to tell me you've never Googled "Chicken Song" before, Quorny? :\
...just stick you fingers in your ears and say "Na Na Na, not listening!" ;D
Oh, you'd still manage to get through. You always do. And you're probably taking that as a compliment, aren't you? ..0
[EDITED by Mince to fix the quote box]

That's it, just give away all my research skills...

Not even when I had more time on my hands.

I'm tempted to delve into your definition of "through", specifically whether it refers to "ears" or "thick skull", but I'll refrain. ;D

Refraining's good.

I don't know why I bother... Undaunted, unabashed and ever relentless however I now present songs from 1960 to 1964, again I emphasise these are not my favourites, just one's that have "stuck with me" over time... If I have the year wrong, who cares...
1960: https://youtu.be/PXvKAWiU_cQ
1961: https://youtu.be/QueE3230o5c
1962: https://youtu.be/DnBM4TV6JCU
1963: https://youtu.be/_zpOc9n7dlI
and finally 1964: https://youtu.be/4c9W2-uGvQQ
My music muse continues, sorry...

Yes, that's about how I feel plus I have an ache in my leg since it started snowing.

Could be useful though, a leg that snows...you could make a fortune on the ski circuit in a mild winter...

I'm jealous, about the only places I am ever likely to suffer from dandruff are my ears and my nostrils.
-
I still get really nostalgic about this.

What's great about this is that, many years after the release of the song, the band was asked to explain the profundity of the lyrics.
"Absolute gibberish. We used the first thing that came into our heads."

These kids want punched. I hate annoyingly good kids.

"Whiter Shade of Pale", classic, so you get a point. You lose ten points for the second track, a net from eleven, one point for a classic "Duelling Banjos" and minus ten for annoying kids. Harsh but fair.

You can't punch them...you might damage their sister! ???

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
This was a line from "The Detectorists" - not sure who said it.

I dare say it's been said before even that programme.

This is from my friend, Ed Kemmick, and his niece, Katy. It was filmed in the Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co. in Billings, Montana, my favourite bar in the world. Ed is a brilliant author, journalist, musician and darts player. I hate him.

I liked that [I hate him too]. Put me in mind of an old tune, I may have put it here before but I don't think so, it's my favourite American folk song, and this is also my favourite version.
