I've always had a soft spot for Simon and Garfunkel and it's been interesting to see some recent takes on their material. ("America" by First Aid Kit, for example). My sister told me to check out this version of "Sound of Silence". To be honest, and this will come as no surprise to you all, I'd never heard of the gentlemen involved. I thought it was stunning.

That's particularly spooky, my wife played the same track for me yesterday and yes it is very very good. The popularist theory is that no cover version ever surpasses the original, and I had subscribed to this, but I remember doing a post here some time ago which completely turned that theory on it's head. This one is at least as good as the original, it's too close to call which is the finer version. Not that that matters, it just makes for double the listening pleasure.

Couldn't agree more about cover versions, Red, and it's particularly weird that we stumbled across this example at almost the same time. Like you, I feel it's AT LEAST as good as the original.

Oh, you just had to post this! You had nothing better to do than make me play it to my wife who now hums it ALL THE TIME, but still tells me off for whistling it. I know you're probably still a bit giddy at having worked out how to post YouTube clips, but try to show a little restraint.

;D A win win situation for Roger I'd suggest. Incidentally you missed the salient point, Roger not only worked out how to post video clips, he remembered how to post video clips. How much that relates to the excellent advice he had previously on how to post video clips is of course...redundant.

Red, I have your step-by-step instructions written down and safe in my desk!

Is that the desk with the combination lock? Oh, dear... :-\

All this talk about computer thingies reminds me of a wonderful New Yorker cartoon I saw recently.
Ali Baba and the 40 thieves are standing, looking puzzled, outside the sealed cave. A voice says...
"Try "Open UNDERSCORE Sesame." "
-
That reminds me of the cartoon with the programmer drowning in the sea shouting "F1 F1 F1!"
