Title: The Mighty Bulldogs
Post by: Malc on December 16, 2007, 03:44:27 PM
OK, I'm just setting the scene for my match reports regarding Capalaba Mighty Bulldogs (U15s) next year.

As you know I've been appointed coach of the U15 Doggies, and the preamble goes like this:

Me, an unfancied coach, is given unfancied team to run prior to the 2008 season. I was told at the time I was appointed that I would have hardly any kids turn up for trials owing to the "best" kids having gone to another club after last season when we finished sixth.
Oddly, they have followed the coach who secured that sixth place (the lowest the boys have ever finished) to the other club (?)

At the trials LOADS of kids turned up, and we chose twelve, leaving a couple of spots available for latecomers of the required standard.
During the trials which I ran and oversaw, one senior club coach cast aspersions on what he saw as my rather unorthodox methods (I basically schewed the dribbling around cones deal, preferring the lads to play one whole match, with drinks breaks, to see how they fared in a real game situation).
I told him to take his clipboard and f**k off, that I was sick of his snotty attitude and that I had never liked him anyway.
He chose not to take any more part in the proceedings.

After the letters of acceptance had been sent out, four players replied and said that they would prefer not to take their place in the side, as a better offer had come up.
This happens, especially in U15s, when the clubs who trial early get the tyre-kickers, just trialling for kicks.

So now I'm phoning around known and able players who appear to be stateless, asking what they're up to next season.
Alex Ferguson started out the same way, I hear.

By the way, don't feel obliged to answer these posts, treat them like a little diary I'm posting on the Beau Peep site for your amusement.

I'll be taking photos during the season, and maybe even posting videos on You Tube.

Thanks for the up date.
When I started as coach I did a similar thing telling all the old players that thy would not figure in next years matches if they did not shape up.
Only two made the grade.
In seven years we had climbed 4 leagues and won the cup.
Go Bullies Go

I think we'd all like to know more about what a crushing disappointment Mince has been as a son.
Do share.

Is there anything good about him, Peter? Anything at all? Maybe something a Dad would be proud of, (other than the fact he knows how to use semi-colons correctly)?

I would have thought, given Peter's record with the 3 R's, the fact that Mince CAN read and write (and do 'rithmatic) was something to be proud of. Peter's hasn't been a very good role model, has he?
Who helped Mince with his homework?  ::)

In Pete's football team, Mince was Left Back.

Left back in the changing room correcting the punctuation on the team-sheets.

Name the world cup winning side without looking it up.
Tell people what you were doing before ten this morning.
Which talents were you referring to.

Title: Re: The Mighty Bulldogs

"No Charge" is merely one in a litany of awful, family values down home country dirges.
Try "Corn Fed", which is a lot newer.

The country music industry, more than any other section of the entertainment business, demands songs constantly. There are just SO many bands and artists who don't write their own material or who need cloned versions of someone else's hit.

They're even plundering stuff off the internet. Anyone receive that email recently which listed all the stuff we used to do as kids but which is off limits to kids today? Drinking from the tap, not wearing helmets when riding bikes, getting belted by our dads, setting fire to public buildings, etc?

Well some country artist (and ex American Idol finalist, so he's riddled with musical integrity) ripped it off totally and made it into a song. His name is Bucky Covington, and the lyrics go:

We were born to mothers who smoked and drank
Our cribs were covered in lead-based paint
No childproof lids
No seatbelts in cars
Rode bikes with no helmets
and still here we are
Still here we are

We got daddy's belt when we misbehaved
Had three TV channels you got up to change
No video games and no satellite
All we had were friends and they were outside
Playing outside

School always started the same everyday
the pledge of allegiance, then someone would pray
not every kid made the team when they tried
We got disappointed but that was alright

We turned out alright

It was a different life
When we were boys and girls
Not just a different time
It was a different world

No bottled water
We'd drink from a garden hose
And every Sunday,
All the stores were closed.

Look, I wouldn't mind so much, but Covington is only 30 years old. By the time he was 10, Oliver North was destroying files and lying to congress about the Contra affair. Different world? Exactly the same bloody world, cretin.

Except for the fact that you couldn't blatantly rip your ideas off the internet 30 years ago.

Malc, I was nearly going to forgive the guy till you got to the bit about him being thirty years old. That's just ridiculous. I suppose someone like Kenny Rogers MIGHT have got away with it. You'd still want to slap him but he might have got away with it.

Next Christmas, hopefully. Too short notice for me on this occasion.
I have to get through the festive season then prepare for the Mighty Bulldogs season, which will end in September after the Gold Coast Cup.
