Title: Magazines.
Post by: Roger Kettle on March 31, 2008, 09:15:19 PM
I've just been reading one of those pseudo-psychological newspaper articles. It suggests that you can tell a person's character/personality by the magazines they subscribe to. (OO! DEEP!)
Okay, I'll go first...

Private Eye.
When Saturday Comes.
Montana Magazine.
Battlefield Dispatch.(Newsletter of the Custer Battlefield Historical & Museum Assosciation).

Could this possibly suggest that my interests include humour, football and Montana?

Gee, sad comes to mind. That's akin to buying Wargaming Weekly.

Mind you, when I was mad on roleplaying games, I used to buy Dragon magazine.

(Go on, Peepmaster. Go for it.)

I hope not, Roger.

I've never subscribed to a magazine in my life. Ergo, I have no life.  :(

Let me guess - you wanted to live in a land called Honalee, and be called Puff?

Subscription to mag's = ZERO
Mag's bought daily/weekly/monthly = ZERO
mag's read = ZERO

:-\ :-\ :-\ I am without character  or personality it would appear!

(No shock there then  ;))

I buy one magazine a week: Now! It's for my teenage granddaughters and I flick through it first to make sure there's nothing too horrid in it.

What does this say about my 'character and personality'?

EXACTLY!
Well, apart from it being nothing to do with "wargaming".
And it's a historical publication.
And it's edited by archaeologists.
And its proceeds go to maintaining a national monument.
But, apart from that, it's akin.

Roger, are you the national monument?

Sadly, no, Vulch. I was talking about the Custer Battlefield monument. I am, however, regarded in my household as somewhat static and ornamental.

Peepmaster suffers from static as well.

Now, if I was going to subscribe to a battlefield magazine, it would probably be the Battle of Issus or the Battle of Leuctra.

Does anyone else have an image of two geezers whacking each other over the head with battle magazines?

In that case, I'm the more handsome of the two.

I get:

Dogs in Canada with my CKC membership
Family Dog, which is the AKC magazine.
Amnesty International Rights Now!
World Vision Canada Childview (we have been sponsors for over 20 years - we have five kids now)
The Costco Connection (big warehouse superstore)

Every now and again I will buy myself a new magazine such as Good Housekeeping or O or House and Home, but most of the time I am too cheap and will pick up last year?s magazines for 25c a piece at garage sales. I love to buy old National Geographics ? they are my favorite magazine. I like to read political stuff in Time Magazine and McLeans ? but same thing ? too cheap to buy my own -  I read them in waiting rooms and such ? sure some of the news is a little old but it is still new to me.

I like dogs, human rights and being cheap.
