It's gone dead quiet on this board, so I reckon it's probably no longer cool to post on the Beau Peep forum. Therefore the next person to post is a big girlie. (My money's on Mince).

I've just got home from a night out and ....DAMMIT!
-
I had a Tandoori Mixed Grill. With wine.

Poopmaster, please put the full stop "inside" the brackets. Only the Americans put it outside.

Do you ever get ideas while you're out eating?
-
No.

Do you ever get an American full-stop up your bracket?
-
No.
Not even ones for Beau Peep?

I agree with The Peepmaster and the American nation. I put my full stop AFTER the brackets. It makes sense. Open your bracket, include your thoughts, close the bracket then finalise everything with a full stop.
As I said earlier , I had an Indian meal tonight (Tandoori Mixed Grill).

Yep, I think the full-stop comes last. (After everything else, in fact). That's what my old English teacher told me. "The full stop comes after everything else, Sutherland", (that's what he said). To which I responded, "Thanks for that advice, sir".

No.

I'm not sure I understand this---do you mean ideas for Egon? Well, unless the chef hits me with a haddock, then it's still "no".

His whacking you with the halibut would have done!

No, I was implying that no ideas for anything entered your head. Clearly it didn't work. What do I have to do round here to be appreciated - cut my ear off?

Go here and read number 12: http://www.mantex.co.uk/samples/fullstops.htm
The point of brackets is that you can remove them and their contents and still leave behind something that makes sense. If you take away yours, there's a full stop floating around doing nothing.

Exactly! The full stop after the brackets actually belongs to the rest of the sentence (not including the bracketed section). So, if you take away the bracketed section you are left with a sentence that makes sense. For example:
The full stop after the brackets actually belongs to the rest of the sentence (not including the bracketed section).
The full stop after the brackets actually belongs to the rest of the sentence.

Yes, that's okay because the whole sentence is not inside the brackets.
Now try it with:
(This is a sentence inside brackets).
And you will be left with a stray full stop.

Incidentally, I couldn't get through to your Man Tex Samples website. (Not really sure that I want to actually, but what you do in your spare time's your business). ..0
-
I couldn't get through either but I'm in total agreement with Peeps. My brackets will forever remain full stopless.
Now, if you don't mind, I've got some serious work to do---Dennis is discussing Naked Cycling Month in his village.

Incidentally, I couldn't get through to your Man Tex Samples website. . Why is there an extra full stop?
(Not really sure that I want to actually, but what you do in your spare time's your business)
-
see if you do sentences like what I do and leave out the full stop this argument would be irelevant

Good point, Peter.
