it involves chips. That is your clue.
-
playing roulette?
-
Fish 'n chips?
-
So long as you're not actually referring to "crisps", I don't mind.
-
Are you saying goodbye to Mister?
-
Are you laying a wood chip floor or making a playing area with them?
-
I'll go with Diamond Lil, I reckon it's Casino-related.
Hoping it's not "cashing in your..." If so, you're remarkably composed.
-
Alberta...hmmmm..anything to do with Buffaloes?
-
You're having microchips surgically implanted into your brain as the first step in an attempt to become half-woman, half-robot... thus increasing your mandala output by 130%.
-
Diamond Lil and Malc are right - it is a casino, but I'm not playing, I'm being the "banker". In Alberta, they get non-profit groups to volunteer in the casinos and give them a huge chunk of cash for 2 days work. (around $40,000) I am doing it for the PAL group (children's reading group) in exchange for a $10,000 donation to the library (of which I am chair on the board).
It sounds pretty cool but it is quite boring...especially on a Monday.
-
So are you the person who sits at a kiosk and exchanges money for chips? Or do you also get to shuffle cards while saying indecipherable things at high speed before each round of betting? Do you get to spin the roulette wheel?
-
No, that is the "cashier" and no, the paid and trained staff get to work with the games. I sit by a vault and pass chips to the cashier or the "chip runner" who takes chips out to the casino staff when they hand me a slip of paper requesting more chips. There is about 40 minutes of work to do in an 8 hour shift.
-
...but what a great amount of cash for your library at the end of it all. Well done ;D
-
Thanks Lil - I did end up being the cashier as the guy who was supposed to do that job was not awake enough - he had a test at the hospital in the AM for which they gave him a general when he was just expecting a freezing. Thank goodness I put nail polish on is all I can say.
-
...so now do you fancy staking some of the housekeeping money on a game of Blackjack...it would be a pity to waste those newly-varnished nails 8)
-
to be honest DL, Monday afternoon/early evening gambling does not attract the most glamorous of crowds.
