The new Beau Peep book is taking shape and should be available quite soon. I never realised how much red tape is involved in this self-publishing business. The guy who's doing all the work on it even had to submit his passport at one stage to prove he was a British citizen. Anyway, I'll let you know all the details when everything is in place which, as I said earlier, should be quite soon.
-
Well this is some good news. :)
-
Hooray!
-
Great news Roger. Any chance of a sneak preview of the cover?
-
You'll need to produce your passport first, Rob.
Excellent news, Roger. I look forward doubling my Beau Peep book collection.
-
I'm so excited, I almost wet my...
Damn!
-
Great news Roger. Any chance of a sneak preview of the cover?
You want me to scan the cover and then post it here as some sort of attachmemt?
How long have you known me, Rob?
-
You could sketch it.
-
Yeah, and then scan it and post it here as some sort of attachment. ..0
-
Yeah, and then scan it and post it here as some sort of attachment. ..0
Don't be silly. Roger could hook up a graphics tablet, or maybe a Cintiq, as a peripheral, and then save the drawing directly as an optimised jpg, which he could then upload. ..0
-
Get him to email it to me and I will attach it.
-
Yeah, and then scan it and post it here as some sort of attachment. ..0

Yes, I thought about that. For a nano-second.
-
Get him to email it to me and I will attach it.
You haven't quite grasped the magnitude of this problem, have you, Mincey?
-
I don't think we should really be queueing up on here to make Roger look an idiot. Without him, there wouldn't even be a Beau Peep forum. Has he got a Facebook page?

;D ;D ;D
-
The guy posting on here as Roger might not even be the guy who writes the Beau Peep strips. He could be anyone, perhaps even someone famous.
-
He may not even be called 'Roger'.
-
Rumbled. My real name is Doris.
-
Rumbled. My real name is Doris.
So just an ordinary person? That probably still makes you more famous than Roger.
-
Hmm. Doris is "Sir Od" backwards...

Going back to my lack of technological skills, I've just noticed something at the top of my computer screen...what the hell is a "Web Slice Gallery"? I'm scared to click on it in case I reveal a series mutilated zombie photographs.

"Through the use of Web Slices, now you can keep up with your favorite web sites directly from the Favorites Bar located in your Internet Explorer 8 web browser. If the web page you are visiting has a Web Slice available, a green Web Slices icon will appear in the upper-right hand corner of your browser. You can then easily add the Web Slice to your Favorites Bar!
On WebSliceGallery.com you will find all latest and top rated Web Slices that will enhance your browsing experience."
No zombies...

I like zombies.
-
Well, I like them more than vampires.

Do people still use IE?

Sun having a capital "S" made me think it was the newspaper.

You'd think we'd get free copies.

Sure! Your free to go an buy one.... isn't that what you mean? :P

What did Groucho Marx once say? "Even a 4 year old child could do that.....quick, run out and find me a 4 year old child!"
Thanks indi - the book looks great!

Get it now direct from them. :)
-
When will we see the finished cover? I've always loved them.
-
When will the book be available in the UK? The £8+ postage from the USA is a trifle steep!
-
Book ordered, at a total cost of £11.80 incl standard international shipping. So, I should see it sometime by summer.
-
That is the final cover; they wanted something a little different this time round.
Yeah, postage from the US is pretty steep... sorry. We're going to try and get a Kindle version done which would eliminate that, but that'll take a little time to put together. (I always prefer proper books too I have to say)
-
Can't you just send us the PDF?
-
Use Lulu - they print and despatch from the UK - (from Eastbourne).
-
We may well do a release there as well, the only issue is Amazon don't permit the "same" book to be published in 2 different places. There has to be "changes".
I don't expect that it would take much to do a Lulu version, we'll look into it.
-
Hi, co-conspirator here (I'm to blame for the typesetting/Graphics). I'm the other one involved in the production of this book, ever since the "Hey, why don't we..." realisation.
Lulu was in fact the source of the first few "prototypes", but there was pretty much only the single landscape format print size and it wasn't quite a good fit for the strips. So overall Amazon - and all their hoops - seemed like the way to go. Maybe we can do The Return of Beau Peep: Director's Cut for Lulu?
I'd be delighted/horrified to hear suggestions for improvements.
-
Woohoo - it says my order 'has now shipped' :D. Estimated delivery date Thursday, March 15, 2012 >:( .
Anyone would think America is a long way away.
-
Amazon said that mine is due by March 13.
-
When's mine coming?
-
You have to buy one first.
-
You're kidding me, right?
-
Maybe Roger will arrange for the senior users of this forum to get a complimentary copy, but I assumed that I had to pay hard earned cash for mine.
-
Senior users? I don't even take drugs. Send me your copy and I'll scan it. :)
-
Why bother. The other site will probably do it anyway.
-
Amazon said that mine is due by March 13.
The delightful tome duly arrived today. Have read it already, sniggered at the Vultures and Dennis in his Gorilla outfit.
When's the next one published?
-
I just ordered mine, it should be here between March 16th and sometime in April.
How old are the included strips, Roger? Do they pick up from around the time the last book was published, are they all pretty recent, or are they a randomly/carefully selected set of strips from throughout this time period?
-
Hang on. Are you saying this is a book of repeats?

I think they're around 8 to 10 years old, Jack---none of them have appeared in book form before. I used to get free books from the publishers but this new set-up doesn't allow for that. I have returned all of Mince's begging letters.
-
STILL waiting for mine >:(. I see the Star has put a line under Beau today to say the new book is out (trouble is they didn't say Amazon.com -- it's not available on .co.uk).
-
Rob, I contacted The Star to put the tagline on and only found out today that a search on Amazon reveals nothing. I'll try to sort it out.
-
... and only found out today that a search on Amazon reveals nothing.
Who found out for you?
-
I did! I've been in touch with the Star again and the new tagline will correctly identify amazon.com.
-
Am I the only one on this site (other than Roger, of course) that has seen this book?
-
My book was waiting for me when I got home this evening. Of course I read it immediately. Needless to say I was highly entertained. Hooray for a new Beau Peep book, I look forward to the next one :)
At the risk of revealing that I don't purposely buy the Daily Star if I can help it, I must enquire as to what on Earth happened to Mad Pierre? He was conspicuous by his absence (even having been replaced by the reporter on the splash page). Did he get killed off some time ago? Were his acts of needless violence deemed poor taste in this politically-correct world, resulting in his banishment from the newspaper?
-
I hadn't noticed that, Jack, but Mad Pierre is definitely still around---I wrote a series about him just the other week. I really should read this book.
-
So for all you know, the book might just contain doodles of naked women.
-
I'm off to read it now.
-
So for all you know, the book might just contain doodles of naked women.
Well, mine certainly does.
-

Well, mine certainly does.
I thought you'd seen a therapist about that and got it under control.
-
I suspect Mince hasn't got a copy yet either, or he'd have pointed out the strip where "practical" was spelt "practicle".
-
Just ordered mine 5 minutes ago :D
-
Just ordered mine 5 minutes ago :D
You realise you'll need to amend your post every 60 seconds.
-
No I won't.
All you need to do is look at the time I posted 8)
-
It shows as an hour behind on my computer...
-
It still won't alter the '5-minutes ago'!
-
OK, I ordered mine at 23:11:28 on 4th March 2012.
-
What if your clock was wrong?
-
I'm not sure the order can be put down precisely to the second. The whole process would probably take a few minutes, therefore a time span would come into play. Perhaps it would be better if we were told the time the process commenced, and then, the moment it was completed, either by the appearance of verification, or when the "complete your order" button was pressed.
-
What if your clock was wrong?
It's a moot point. (I always wanted one of those.)
-
I have never pointed at a moot in my life.
-
Your estimated delivery date is:
Wednesday, April 11, 2012
:o

When I did my book I paid for a thingy that gave me distribution in the UK - on Amazon.co.uk etc. Might that be an optiooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon?
-
Might be, Nige, I'll pass that information on.
I needed a few books for a meeting I was going to so ordered them on the priority option. Okay, it cost me sixty quid for five of them but they arrived in three days. Hopefully, the other options will soon cut down the time involved.

I'd have posted you mine if you'd asked. I can put up with a wobbly table for a few weeks.
-
I've been on a two-month spending freeze but just ordered my copy today. :)

Mincey BOUGHT a Beau Peep book?
-
Mine arrived this morning ;D
-
Mine arrived this morning ;D
'ray!
-
Thank goodness Mince never bought a copy. On the opening page, where all the characters are listed, Sergeant Bidet's rank is described as "Seregant". Aaaargh.
-
Is it short for seregant mother?
-
STILL waiting for mine.....
-

Just had to have a look there ;D ;D
I see it says book 20 on the next page in very small writing.
Why not on the cover like the rest of the books?
-

Both sargent and kernel are hard to spell - I rely on my Beau Peep books to help me spell them if the need arises.
-
Woohoo - my arrived this morning, at last ! And very good it is too, for an independant venture, and lovely clear printing. I'll try and work out the dates of the strips - which is a bit tricky as the code numbers have been tippexed out. Only critiscm is there's no photo of Mr K and Mr C, which is a bit of a disapointment as they were sometimes just as funny as the strips.
-
Mine arrived this morning ;D
I first read that as "Mince arrived this morning". You either had my condolences, or were making a spag bol.
-
I got my book in the mail but had a busy weekend - I would have liked to have talked about it now but it has disappeared. I think my git of a son may have taken it. >:(
It was a real treat to see new cartoons after all these years - keeping in mind I don't read UK daily newspapers so am only a fan due to the books.
I haven't laughed so much since 1998.
-
I'm still waiting for my free copy.
-
I found my book! My sweet child had nothing to do with its disappearance.
My favourite joke in the whole book is the top one on page 53 - I would go into more detail but will wait until Mince digs out the coins from his sofa and buys a copy.

So how do we know you're not just pretending to have a copy?

So how do we know you're not just pretending to have a copy?
Because the funniest joke IS on the top of page 53. I rest my case.
-
How do we know you're not just pretending you don't have a copy?
I actually was going to buy one, but chickened out and bought some condoms instead.

Now there is no hope of your future kid buying you a copy for father's day.
-

I prefer the one at the top of page 72, for its sheer randomness. Or randomality, if you prefer.
-
How do I know you're all not just doing this to make me buy the book.

That would have been brilliant too if somebody had bothered to colour in pentagons on the round item (I would say more but don't want to give away the plot).
-
I chuckled at Egon's efforts in trying for a record on page 83.
-
Andrew certainly drew a great gorilla costume for ??????????. Who is it?
-
What had the vulture eaten to make him not want the meat bait laid out by ????
-
I chuckled at Egon's efforts in trying for a record on page 83.
My thoughts, just like Dennis' wandered to the unanswered question. In my opinion it does make a difference. (I would say more...)
-
Oo! Oo! Oo!
-
No point buying the book now. You've ruined it.
-
Still catching up on lots of topics and posts but haven't read too many about the 'new' book.........fingers crossed I'll have my very own copy on Thursday......Prezzie Time! :P
-
Prezzies yesterday but no BP book.....but, I'm told something is still in the post and as our postman never gets here before 1:30pm, today could be the day!
-
New book duly arrived! :D I'll take great pleasure in reading it over the next week or so. Can't rush a good thing!
Beau Peep book collection now complete again. :D
-
Surely if you expected it on Thursday, hoped it would be there Friday, and finally got it Monday, it was not "duly" at all.
-
Point taken.......but it's here now!
-
Duly noted.
-

Thanks for spotting that, Mince.
-
Just a quick note to say that Beau Peep book 20, is now available (finally) for sale on Amazon UK!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Return-BEAU-PEEP-20/dp/1463693281/ (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Return-BEAU-PEEP-20/dp/1463693281/)
So you'll get it much cheaper (and quicker I hope) than before.
-
Thanks for that Indi, I had been holding off until it reached a sensible price. Sadly it looks like it never will, so I'll take a hit for the £6.99 (plus free p+p of course). >:(
-
Book arrived yesterday. Best money I've spent since I took out a female extended warranty, and nearly as funny.
-
At last - I now have my copy. Trying so hard not to read it all at once...
-
So, 16 months later, is it too soon to ask for another new book? Did the last one break even yet, or did self-publishing on Amazon turn out not to be a financially viable option?
-
Well, you can't really LOSE money as it's pretty much a print-on-demand set-up but, without seeing any final figures, it's safe to say I won't be retiring any time soon.
-
Well, you can't really LOSE money as it's pretty much a print-on-demand set-up
I wish you'd said so earlier. In that case, I demand a new book. :D

Me too, Jack.
Right, that's now officially a production run. Make it so number one. ;)
