If there are any pics posted there, they're not showing on my monitor.

If there's nothing there and that's the gag, it's not funny.

Malc, if your monitor is not rated at least YouTube Gag 1.2, you won't see anything.

Is that a real rating or the equivalent of sending the apprentice to get the left handed screwdriver?

Someone else answer, not Mince.

I'm seeing both embedded clips.

I'm seeing the great Victor Borge. I hope I'm not imagining it.

Victor it is, Roger, and I do believe Mincey has adjusted my post to embed the link I'd put in, after failing miserably once again to embed the thing myself, despite meticulously adding the html bracketed codes on either side of the embed code.

So I owe a big thank you to the smart-arse.

Tarks, you put {CODE} {/CODE} instead of {HTML} {/HTML}. (Use square brackets rather than curly ones.) You also edited the post while I was editing it, and I had to edit it again.

Just realised I should have asked Mince...I can't get sound on YouTube...anything else on my PC is fine :-\

It could be:

1. volume control in Windows;
2. missing audio driver;
3. speaker plugged into wrong whole or not plugged in at all;
4. speakers switched off;
5. sudden deafness.

Or you don't have speakers.

My money's on you having your speaker jackplug in the wrong hole at the back of the box. Modern computers have sound cards as standard. Very different in my day....why, way back in....ooh, 2000 I think it was, you had to buy a sound card separately, and if you didn't know how to install it you took it to a computer shop where a spotty, supercilious young git, hardly old enough to shave, would throw a disgusted look, then patronise and humiliate you.

It's a terrible thing, killin' a man.

Thanks for that...I'll investigate the jack plug system later on...if I do it now, before a hot shower and lots of glucosamine, my back will probably seize up and I'll have to spend the rest of the day under my desk

Lil, if you're stuck under the desk, give us a sign. Just make a post - it doesn't have to make sense at all. Just reach up and bang on the keyboard.

Lil, I am going to send a blast of noise through your computer speakers. If you hear it, attach a microphone to the input socket, install the new Microsoft Hi5 Live Virtual Microphone and Modem Driver 2.3 (the Beta Version), and tell me. We'll go from there.

Have you installed the microphone driver? "Hello. Hello. Testing 1 2 3." I'm not getting anything.

Can you see the monitor screen at all?

My monitor screen has never worked.
I installed it in about 2003 and I keep getting monitors.

Have you tried switching it off at the wall?

Is that the firewall? Where is it? I'm not very good at this.

Don't tell me you've set fire to your wall. It's all those monitors overheating. Get rid of some of them.

You may have noticed from my sister's reply that she could only reach the bottom line of the keyboard. When I rang her, she managed to kick the phone off the receiver and chat for a while. She seems fine. I admit it was all a bit muffled but, as I'm watching the golf at the moment, I said I'd call back tomorrow.

I'm OK...uplifted by my brother's love and concern, I disentangled myself from the monitor cables and firewall...what a jungle it is down there...and was well enough to enjoy a sherbert or two with friends last night.  My thanks to the virtual friends here who sent cards and flowers during my absence.  Still no sound but I've joined a class in lip-reading and that's beginning to help.

Well? did you try the jackplug in different holes or not? And did you have the sound turned up when you did so?

Also, click on Start-Control Panel- Sounds and Audio Devices- and click the Volume tab to make sure all levels are "up' and not set to "Mute".

If that doesn't work, stay in Control panel and click on "System" A box labelled "System Properties" will appear. Click on "Hardware" and bugger about in Device Manager to see if your sound devices have yellow exclamation marks against them (which means they aren't working, but at least you'll know they officially have a problem). Sometimes it's just a case of clicking on an icon to solve a problem.

Then check the internet - just type a summary of your situation into Google to see what can be done.

Finally: Was there a time recently when your sound was working? If you go Control Panel- System it offers a System Restore feature which will reset your computer to a happier time when everything was hunky dory.

Unless you've got a Mac, in which case Macs are different.

All very good sound advice from Malc (see what I did there?). Must be the most boring post he's ever made.

Unless YOU know different....

He knows more than I do. I'll get him to fix my dad's sound card.

I have sound for everything except YouTube.  My sister-in-law told me weeks ago to Google the problem, which I did, and got lots of replies but I lack the energy to sit down and actually follow through the instructions...will try to do better.

When you click on a YouTube clip, is the loudspeaker icon (bottom right) set to full volume? If not, slide it up to the right.
