Title: Early Horace?
Post by: Rob Baker on February 24, 2016, 10:01:14 PM
Horace first appeared in the Daily Mirror in 1989.  I found this remarkable resemblance to him and Mojo in a different publication from 1986.

I even remember the punchline to that one, Rob!
Yep, the Horace strip was loosely based on a series of cartoons that Andrew and I had done for various Men's magazines in the Eighties.

OK, who wants to have a stab at guessing Roger's punchine?  (Just to clarify, it depicts the Lone Ranger and Tonto, not Horace and Mojo).

Yes, it's a type of bow and arrow used by cowboys.

(Well, it wasn't in The Sparky, was it?)

I apologise, in advance.  "It would probably go a whole lot better if she was still there..."

All these suggestions are better than the original punchline. Dammit.

Cartoon hindsight, it's a monster.

In that case, perhaps you ought to reconsider my idea for a Tourette's Sandy as a new character in Beau Peep. :)

Only make him the fort manservant (Tourette Butler), who's always getting things wrong, but remains unruffled and laconic, brushing all criticism aside with a casual, "Frankly, My Dear, I don't give a f***!".

Y'welcome.

That smile in some parts of the world constitutes a binding legal agreement.

Sandy, you're going to be a star!

Seeing as how I got made unemployed today, for the first time ever...this is good news!

Sorry to hear that Sandy, technically you are ahead of me, I am still trying to end this redundancy, which just extended into April.   Even more fun, a job I have been offered is one of the few which is exempt from the "Spent" convictions rule, i.e. after ten years any conviction doesn't have to be reported or detailed on an application.   The result?   A certain Christmas Tree incident in 1981 comes back to haunt me!

Good luck with your new career as a cartoon character :-)

Those were some very worthy contenders to Roger's original punchline:

Brilliant idea Tarqs -- I can imagine this character on 'The Fast Show' or 'Harry Enfield and Chums'.
