Man that runs behind bus will get exhausted.
Man that run in front of bus will get tired.
I laughed when I suddenly understood how long it took you to get this. Good grief, man, this is an ancient gag. Mind you, that's probably why I got it so quickly...
Talking about old jokes, I saw a lovely crossword clue in the Sunday Times recently.
"Old comic, sold as new comic." (3,6).
I thought it was clever.

I have found that to do cryptic crossword clues, always assume it's an anagram.
As for the joke I posted, I grew up reading books on synonyms, which explained the subtle differences between the meanings of similar words, and my brain, when reading the bus joke, was in that mode, wondering whether there was such a difference between exhausted and tired, and also remembering something my friend told me, that being first and at the front in a race is more tiring than being second.

I'm not sure that your theory about cryptic crosswords is correct but, in this case, it is. It's an anagram.

I got it within a few seconds, Roger, but we had the Mother-in-Law round for tea, so that helped...
Sorry I didn't respond to this earlier, especially as Mincey seems to have interpreted lack of response as brainlessness. I was too busy rolling my eyes.
