Title: Pheasants
Post by: Diane CBPFC on December 12, 2020, 08:14:36 PM
We see quite a few ruffled grouse in the fall, but this year we have at least two pheasants hanging around too and they are quite rare here. The male comes right up to the house and cleans up under the bird feeder. So beautiful, especially when the sun shines on him.

Once again, a lovely photo, Diane. I don't want to spoil the mood or anything, but I hear pheasant is delicious. I don't recall ever trying it but that's what people say. Is there a shotgun in your house?

Lovely photo, Diane. Would you like a photo of a cat crapping on my lawn?

Hubby has quite a few riffles and guns of assorted caliber, in the past he has put moose and deer in the freezer and would not think twice about murdering my pheasant friend.

I guessed there might be some weaponry around! I grew up in similar surroundings---a small Highland village, 1,200 ft up----and there were more than a few shotguns around. Not to mention fridges full of venison...

I've decapitated a few carrots in my time.

I grew a few kinds of carrots this year, but made the mistake of planting them under tomato plants which shaded them out and stunted their growth.

I am already looking forward to digging about in the dirt next spring.

And they still look better than the crap that grew in our garden.

Was it a new plot or just bad weather?

Both, plus a crap gardener.

I mean, I got loads of leaves and one potato.

Soil prep - the unromantic but vital base of gardening.

Soil prep - the unromantic but vital base of gardening.

I'm no longer friends with most of the soil in my garden.

It can take years to get the soil right - don't give up.

Hey, the soil started it!
