Title: Nearly THAT time again...
Post by: Roger Kettle on October 26, 2007, 06:57:21 PM
Ah, the Beau Peep Christmas Competition, where all the site regulars get the chance to win a wondrous selection of prizes! Well, it's usually just one prize. And, more often than not, it's a signed Beau Peep original. I haven't decided what's on offer this year and I don't know what the competition is yet but I will make an announcement soon. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them.

Okay, who do I have to sleep with to win?

I don't think it's gonna be that kind of competition.

Peter, do me a favour, mate - there's a little button on the left hand side of your keyboard with the words 'caps lock' written on it. How about giving it a little dink...?

Long time for who, Vult?

You see, the problem is that, if I set an obscure question about Beau Peep, it's unfair on people who don't have all the books and, let's face it, Rob Baker would win all the time. Hence all the previous stuff about limericks etc. What I want is a competition that anyone can win and is great fun to enter. I remember one year we did an alphabet thing where you had to write a paragraph about Beau. The first word began with "a", the second with "b" and....I'm sure you get the point. Something like " 'Aargh! Beau!' cried Dennis. 'Egon's frying giant haddock in jelly......."
Maybe we should try that again. Or maybe not. I'm still waiting for suggestions...

I am sure a man of your standing Roger, will think of something.
Don't make it anything to do with grammar.

My suggestion is that while we are waiting on suggestions, you sneak a signed drawing in the post with my name on the envelope  ;D

How about a premium number phone-in vote, where one of us gets kicked out of the fort every week? Last one in wins, and we cream the dosh off the phone numbers scam.  ;D

Is Peter writing the Andy Capp scripts now? In today's strip, Flo comments to Andy about him jumping on "an apponent's back".

Remember a few years ago I did a cartoon of Dennis shouting up the chimney his thanks to Santa for the sugar tongs?  You could have a Beau Peep cartoon be the Christmas competition.

Or there is always the old standby of guessing how many marbles are in a jar. To make it more christmasy you could change the marbles for salt water taffy.

Or you could ask us to assign the characters of Beau Peep into parts in a modern famous movie or classic novel. e.g Mad Pierre could have the title character spot in Frankenstein.

Or people could print out a Beau Peep face and make a cut-out and have their photo taken with it in the most unusual place.

Or there could be a make a Beau Peep board game competition.

Or there could be: make a classic Beau Peep dish inspired by Egon and take a photo of it. Listing the ingredients used.

How about a theme song? I can't write music though so you would have to allow dum de dum de dums.

I saw this. 100% Mahoney's fault and I cringed. You just can't get the staff these days.

Diane - where on earth did you get all the ideas from? You're not a cub leader, by any chance?

I suspected it wasn't YOU, Roger. Mind you, I did wonder if you'd been influenced by the spate of made-up words I haphazardly used in a recent thread....

I do have quite a few thoughts buzzing around in my head... some of them are useful :-)

I am not a cub leader. I am not in favor of cubs/brownies etc. I was thrown out of the girl guides when I was a kid. Miserable gits.

Just read all the way through and am now off to "outpourings". I'm very nervous though - after reading Diane's suggestions I'm wondering just how much creativity and time will need to be devoted to enter this competition!

What about Sopwithout? Camel without a hump, who has the hump permanently.

I REALLY must bring that camel back. I'm amazed at the number of people who still mention him---despite the fact he hasn't appeared in the strip for about twenty years!

Look, if you can get away with a snake and a frog in Horace, surely Sopwith deserves centre-stage more often.

The snake and the frog have virtually disappeared from "Horace". Sopwith has virtually disappeared from "Beau Peep".
My God, I'm responsible for the extinction of cartoon animal species.
