Title: Wholesome Television at its very best.

I hear that the most exciting part of the 24 hour a day coverage happens at 10:00 AM (GMT)when the cheese is turned, but as that is 3:00 AM here I will miss it.  :'(

Talking of valentines, just my luck - the postie for my hamlet's on a strictly no valentine delivery work-to-rule.

To save the planet and my postie the trudge to the 2nd floor, I made it well known that I would prefer a tree to be planted instead of being overwhelmed by tacky greetings cards yesterday.  Today I have a warm glow just knowing an embryo forest has my name on it  8)

Did you have an avatar on the old board? If you tell me what avatar you want, I'll sort it out for you.

"Picture thingy" sounds so much better than "Avatar".

I believe the crooner, Neil Diamond, featured in Lil's avatar. What that man can do with three chords!

Dear Mince

My picture was indeed that of Neil Diamond.  Disregard that last comment - the lad has always been jealous of Mr D's looks/chord wizardry/thick head of hair/chance to ride a Harley Davidson across Montana at 63

Has anyone seen the cheese turn?  Would it be worth it for me to stay up till 3:00AM to view the turning of the cheese?  ;D

Sorry, Diane, but according to my filofax, I have events that take priority over cheese-turning booked for 10am for at east the next 12 days, but as soon as I can schedule for it, I'll let you know. We can only hope for a cancellation.

I was up till 4:15 last night as my dog was having puppies so I thought I would take that rare opportunity to watch the cheese turn ? now, a puppy was born at exactly one minute to three so I had to leave the computer for a few minutes ? but I swear nothing happened ? the label was still in the exact same place.

I feel that I, and millions like me, have been hoodwinked by the cheese-makers.

Did you allow for the time-difference?

Congratulations on your new arrivals, by the way. There's nothing to compare to being greeted by a bundle of tiny energetic puppies squeaking and falling over each other every morning. (A fond memory from my childhood).

Unlucky, Diane - you chose the cheese-turner's day off (you don't expect these guys to work 24/7 do you?).

I suggest you try again tonight.

I too love puppies - what make are they?

Thank you Mince but even I had forgotten the days when he had quite so much hair. Sorry to have ruined your Sunday, Tarquin and I'll be even sorrier when my brother sees it....

Lil, maybe you could use this as your signature. I'm sure Tarquin would approve.

I did suggest some years ago that when the lad went on holiday would have been a good time for me to take questions on just that very topic...then the "blood is thicker than etc etc" kicked in and I resisited.  The subject of money changing hands, however, was never broached and it is well known to have anti-coagulant properties..... 8)

Can we at least take out the third one from the left please? It's deeply disturbing.

Actually, no - they ALL are.  :o

Funny you should mention the third photo from the left, Tarquin, as I have a grainy picture of my brother celebrating his 21st, looking remarkably similar...now, back to the filthy lucre....and no, Mince, a signature doesn't even come close in deciding the stakes...sorry ;D

I take it that's a no to my very reasonable request then.

Which leaves me with little alternative but to fight fire with fire...

In that last picture, Gilbert looked like he was halfway into an Albert Steptoe morph.

I love that song, Roger. I got up on stage and sang it to one of my birds at a Xmas do shortly after arriving on this island. There were tears in people's eyes...

Here it is again (Gilbert, not me):

You have to manually type in {HTML} and {/HTML} (using square brackets, not curly ones). And you have to choose the "Embed" code from YouTube.

Sorry to take the subject of Gilbert and Neil and cheese but I have a very cute picture to post of the pups 5 and 6 days old (depending on which side of midnight they were born).

What's the postage on a Westie pup to the UK, Diane? I want one.

Gilbert is a genius. Looking at that video again, he must have written 'Nothing Rhymed' when he was about ten. There has only been one man since who, I believe, could hold a candle to his poetic excellence.

And I think we now all now know who that is, don't we, Mr Johnson?

cold potato.....cold potato.

My writing was once described as "ivor cutler-ish" by an editor who didn't mean it as a compliment.
I'm constantly surprised and delighted at the oblique and abstract humour that comes out of Scotland. I certainly miss it over here in Oz. I just wish newspapers would use more of the street-level genius that's there and avoid the Glasgow Herald pretentiousness.

Lucky you! I've had Ivor Cutler's big breasts running through my mind all day. Believe me, you got the better deal.
