Did you do anything to celebrate the 200th birhtday of Dickens?

Quote
There is a wisdom of the head, and a wisdom of the heart. ~ Charles Dickens

I quoted him as my Facebook status update today.

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

There's a secondary school in Broadstairs, Kent, (my home town), called "Charles Dickens". (Broadstairs was one of the towns he inhabited.) It's known as Charlie Dicks. Both my parents were teachers there at some stage.

The town has numerous places that reflect Dickens, The Charles Dickens, and Barnaby Rudge are names of pubs. There's a Bleak House, Old Curiosity Shop café, and various blue plaques dotted around the town on buildings where he lived and wrote.

There's also an annual "Dickens Festival Week", when people dress up and walk round in appropriate attire.

Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

When there is not a planned speaker or one doesn't show up to our Toastmaster meeting - we draw two names to do "mini-speeches" - you get 5 minutes to plan your speech.

My name got picked and I did a speech: Charles Dickens - Crusader for the Poor - and won :-)

Good job you decided against "Dennis' favourite crayons" as your topic then!
