I still love the Muppet Christmas Carol...kinda, but not as much as I used to. For some reason best known to the Philistine who decided it should be, they cut the best (and arguably the most important) song from the film when they released it on DVD. Apparently, it was deemed too boring for kids by the utter idiots who mistook this for a kids' movie. This was the pivotal moment when Scrooge's transition from a heartless businessman to man who truly recognised the value of love was complete, and as such, it was absolutely crucial to the story.
But if that were not reason enough, it's a beautiful song, sung by a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice (and also the first time Michael Caine had ever 'sung' on screen), and for that alone, it should never have been consigned to the cutting room floor. Thankfully, I had the VHS version when my kids were young and I'd allow them to watch it with me, so I've enjoyed it many, many times. I can't sit through it with the same enthusiasm now though when it comes on the telly, as I know the Christmas Spirits will completely desert me when it comes to the relevant part of the movie and the scene doesn't turn up, and I want to shove the numpties that cut it up the rear end of the nearest turkey.
