A message for Tarks.
« on: May 22, 2021, 07:51:04 PM »
I can't imagine Tarks will be anywhere near a computer tonight but let me pass on my heartiest congratulations.
His team St. Johnstone won the Scottish Cup today. Not only that but, earlier in the year, they also won the Scottish League Cup. This is an astonishing achievement for the "wee team from Perth". To win two of the three trophies available in a single season is the stuff of dreams---especially when you're competing against the financial giants that are Rangers and Celtic.
Well done, mate! Have a great night and I truly hope you don't have to work tomorrow!

And so much more, Mincey!

Thank you, and forgive me, Roger - I've only just seen this, and certainly not because I've been blind drunk for the past three days. I totally deny that!

Yes, It's been a quite bizarre season for my wee team. I keep expecting to wake up any minute now to find we've only just escaped the relegation battle. The surreality of it all goes beyond the fact that both cups were won by a single goal, scored by the same player, both with his head...and both in the 32nd minute of each match (henceforth to be known as The Rooney Minute at all future Saints home games, where we all done fake bald heads and beards (those of us who need them, of course - not I!). Sadly, I was indeed working on Sunday, and no doubt I will be when they eventually are allowed to organise an open-topped bus parade (Rangers fans, please note - we've won two trophies this season, when normally one is considered exceptional, and are still waiting patiently to celebrate peacefully in the streets for them both).

But I've already celebrated with those in my family who were with me in 2014, when our family alone provided more supporters than were at both of this year's cup finals combined. Such is the weirdness of these Covid times. It's the one slight dampener, and no doubt the jokes will soon start flying about Saints having an unfair advantage this season, because we're used to playing to no crowds.

But do I care? You won't be surprised to hear, not one jot! :-D

I was even happy to see Dundee (along with Hearts) returning to the Premier League last night. Lots of cracking derby games to look forward to next (hopefully unrestricted) season. Cannae wait!
I apologise, in advance.
