I agree with The Peepmaster and the American nation. I put my full stop AFTER the brackets. It makes sense. Open your bracket, include your thoughts, close the bracket then finalise everything with a full stop.

The point of brackets is that you can remove them and their contents and still leave behind something that makes sense.

Exactly! The full stop after the brackets actually belongs to the rest of the sentence (not including the bracketed section). So, if you take away the bracketed section you are left with a sentence that makes sense. For example:
