Viz. Worth the remortgage?

Professional or personal opinions on the comic of the same name please.

After a years long huff at what I perceived to be declining standards and increasing prices, I picked it up to give it another chance. It being now £3.20 and me being a good Scot, I promptly put it back. I'm sorry, but a dozen frames of Fat Slags and a page of Biffa Bacon just didn't do it for me. I did almost get swayed by the Profanisaurus I must admit.

I haven't read Viz for years but used to love it. At its peak, it was, of course, outrageous and virtually obscene but there were some truly inspired strips and characters. Originally, Viz was a satire on all the DC Thomson stuff. Ironically, when I were but a lad, working on The Topper, there were loads of in-house, irreverent versions of the major comics flying round the offices.
The things I saw Beryl the Peril do....

Please, no more. Next you'll be telling me that Desperate Dan was really a secret leather wearing homosexual who hung aroung Dundee parkland in the early hours whistling Village People tunes.

Of course...he was a raging meat-eater. How could I have been so naive?

Is The Parkie still in Viz? I can remember the outrage when it all started!
