Where are all the Ladies?
« on: November 09, 2008, 10:11:09 PM »
It's gone very quiet as far as the women are concerned.

Where is Vulch, Diane, Calypso, Joan, Mince, Lucy, AW, etc?
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

I don't know where the others 'is', but I've just been sharing your latest posts with my granddaughters as an example of what to expect when boys 'grow up'!

That's the thing, Vult - we don't. Initially, that's a big part of the attraction, but it gradually becomes what we are despised for...and it's not us that change, which is unfortunate for you (that's a generic 'you').

I hope your granddaughters are still watching!  ;)

I apologise, in advance.

I did wonder about this, but decided "is" was appropriate in the context of individuals on a list. "Are" wouldn't have sounded correct. Roger's the expert - he'll give us a definitive answer soon, I'm sure.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big "Hi" to Vulch's granddaughters. I don't know their ages, but they're bound to be adult young ladies now, given that... er.. that... As they have a Gran of such seniority.

I would have thought 'are' sounded better; but you could have re-arranged the sentence to: I wonder where Vulch, Diane, Calypso, Joan, Mince, Lucy, AW, etc are

I came into 'grannyhood' quite late so one is only fifteen (going on thirty) and the other is thirteen. They have an eleven year old brother and they think you all have a lot in common!

Shortly, I'm heading out for a meal to celebrate my daughter's 21st. She kindly invited her boyfriend, her mother, her grandmother, her brother and my wallet. Ah, well.

The French restaurant turned out to be really nice, if a tad surreal. The owner was from Dundee, and spoke accordingly, but felt obliged to say things like "Merci, Monsieur" and "Bon Appetit" when he took your order or served your meal. I had guinea fowl stuffed with garlic mousse which may or may not be authentic French cuisine but it was pretty damn good. As I was footing the bill, I tried not scream when several of the company ordered sweet, but, apart from that, it was highly enjoyable.

Your daughter sure reached 21 quickly. Wasn't it only yesterday you were worried about her staying out late?

Glad you had a great night, Roger.

I only go out once a week now - on a Saturday to do my karaoke. Last Saturday, I was just about to start singing "Tears in Heaven", and three young birds decided to get up and sing with me! They have 2 microphones available, so, although I'd already started singing, I handed them the second mike and made it clear, (by gestures) that they were to stand behind me, in effect as "backing singers". I was worried initially that they were going to steal my thunder.
