But a foible is the weaker part of a sword, from the middle of the blade to the prick at the top.

I'll leave that with you.

Tarks, the "prick" should have been seen as read in Peepmaster's post before yours. Peepmaster does try and credit the readers with some  sense and understanding. See here.

I was asked to take part in a serious Pictionary comp once, and the team who secured my services were convinced that they now had a Ronaldo of Pictionary in their team.

They were wrong. I think we came last.

I was trying to draw a nifty cartoon every time, and we were beaten by people drawing stick men. The idea isn't to draw nifty cartoons, just get a word into the minds of your team as quickly as possible, Stick men will do fine.

Mind you, the "ho ho ho" idea I put up there would be a good one for a cartoonist. Hard to draw a stick ho.

Oh, dear - that looks like a challenge to me.

Malc, that's exactly the point I was making earlier. If you want a game that's even slower than chess, get a bunch of cartoonists to play Pictionary.
I apologise, in advance.

The party went well besides the weather. It was around the -30 Cs . Three out of the seven couples cancelled due to the weather - but we still had a great time with the pictionary, and the antler/karoke game.

Thanks guys.  ;D

Thank goodness this was just yet another fabricated biblical story - or that would have really awful. Even as a kid I thought that Jesus had pretty miserable parents to sneak away to Egypt and leave all the other baby boys to be slaughtered.

National Gegraphic features the historical record of Herod this December.

Well he may have been the world's worst choice as a babysitter, but he did design some pretty impressive improvements on the Jerusalem temple...

The Bible allowed the ancient Jews to get round the old adage that history is written by the winners, because they used it to trash the reputations of people they didn't like. The Pharaohs didn't build the pyramids with slave labour (thought the pyramids aren't mentioned in the Bible, I know) and the exodus from Egypt is now thought to be a myth too.

I shouldn't have to say "I'm not anti semitic, but..." but I thought I would.
I'm not an anti semite, though I'm also not a fan of Zionism, but I don't want to open up a can of worms there on this generally well-adjusted board.

Suffice to say there are hundreds of thousands of Jews in the world who are not fans of Israel either.

From what I have read, the return from exile in Babylon saw the Jews split between the stricter, cultic Zionists and those who spiritualised the religion (perhaps that has carried on and therefore explains the attitude of your friends).
Those that did return to Judah and rebuilt the temple (see the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai and Zechariah) made a whole-hearted effort but it bore no resemblance to the opulent structure that Solomon created.
When Herod the Great appeared on the scene, he went about an upgrading project which saw it restored to something closer to its former stature.

I've read some stuff about the doubts over the exodus too. My conclusion was that a lack of archaeological evidence for an event is not evidence that it didnt happen. Also, the exodus was where the law was given to Moses and the religious expectations of the nation were made known. The people could all trace back forefathers to this time, and so if this was a myth, then a) everyone would know about it, and b) why would they all make life so difficult for themselves by adhering to a system of worship which was so difficult and costly?

That said, I'm probably unaware of the whole argument and, to be fair, this is probably getting a bit dull for the gag-hunters  :)

My problem is accepting the whole forty years in the wilderness thing. The distance between Egypt and present day Israel is about 250 miles, the same as from my mum's to Manchester. I used to drive it in four and a half hours.

They were made wander around in the wilderness for 40 years to kill off a generation of the nation who had been sinful and ungrateful.
I remember seeing one of Bestie's sketches on a birthday card where Moses had parted the sea and he was saying to the person next to him, 'What do you mean it's a bit muddy?'  :)
Hilarious as I found it, it's not that far from the behaviour of the Israelites in the book of Exodus, with their, 'What?! Manna again?!' attitude.

But how did Moses get twelve stone tablets down from the mount?
How did he knew how many tablets to take.
Who helped him?
We all knew that taking to many is a serious health risk.
Was a Risk assessment done before he went.
Did he take hammer and chisel with him.
What happened if he went wrong did he have any spare tablets.
These are the question that we need to know the answers to.
