My art show
« on: February 04, 2009, 05:16:36 PM »
Remember a while ago a showed you a few of my mandalas? For the whole month of March, 15 of them (because that is how many frames I have) are going to be shown in our town's art gallery that is attached to the library. I am also doing a workshop on the 21st of March and have 14 out of the 18 spots filled already.

Here is one in case you don't remember:

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

That really is beautiful work, Diane. With all your other activities, do you ever SLEEP?

Thank you all. They are really quite easy to do and a good thing to start with if you are uneasy about trying art. I am the programming chair at the library and this was something we could offer the public for free - I have depressed people and a lady with advanced cancer coming - I think the act of colouring a mandala is theraputic; we are going out for a nice lunch too.

You're supposed to chat 'em up gradually, and seduce them before making come-to-bed suggestions, Roger! Don't you ever learn?  ..0

Beautiful work Diane.
I once made a Naval officer's tunic from a black suit jacket and some yellow elephant tape, but my artistic prowess doesnt come close to that. I'm impressed  :)

Diane, that is beautiful!  I am not really familiar with mandalas. How do you create them?

There are so many ways Feather - from monks on their knees pouring coloured sand, to pencil crayons. I mostly use markers and metalic markers - the one above "India" has some crystals glued on - I do different styles: Galic, African, Inca and I did a cool one with the 8 family crests of my children's great-grandparents - the one I am working on right now is Haida Indian.

You basically draw a circle and traditionally make 8 repeating pie pieces but you can do six or whatever you like - my first one was in fives. You measure angles and guidelines and then have fun. Anyone who can doodle when talking on the phone can make a mandala. You can google and find sites with outlines of mandalas that you can just print off and colour. Stick one by the phone with a pack of pencils or markers and see what happens.

Sounds expensive. Do the monks charge an hourly rate? How many do you need?

To be honest Diane, I could stick that beside my phone for the next 6 months and it wouldn't turn out like that....enjoy your day

I'm with Lil, Diane.   :)  I could never get it to look as good as yours   8)  - not very good at staying between the lines! Love the colours.
