Have Beau or Horace ever been used in Advertising Campaigns?
« on: March 14, 2009, 06:17:15 PM »
I realise the question that makes the title of this thread is really for the main man himself, so, Rob, what's the answer?
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

Heh.Heh.
No, neither character has ever been used. I vaguely recall a beer company showing some interest in Beau Peep back in the eighties but nothing ever came of it. I've always recognised that both characters are difficult to merchandise---Foreign Legionnaires and cowboys are of limited appeal and certainly don't lend themselves to the lucrative children's market. Maybe we should actively chase some advertising contracts. What products do you reckon would work best?
Strongbeau cider?
Drink Horlicks with Horace?

Good question Peepsie - dunno about Horace , but not that many for Beau.

He has a fruit machine named after him:

And there was a bit in the Star in Feb'04 to promote it:

The only beer advert was for Harp Lager which was done as an April Fool's Day joke in 1994:

I'll dig out some other stuff and put it on the Just a Fort section.

Incidentally, where IS this Beau Peep Museum you run?

Pointless asking Roger.

I often wonder whether Roger actually does the strips at all. Perhaps he's just a front man, a handsome dude to appear in photographs and help sell the strip and hide the identity of the real writer. (No, forget that. That's even more unbelieveable! Don't know what I was thinking.)
