The Chicken Saga

You may remember that my son Steve (15) built that lovely chicken house last year (put a photo on Beau Peep) and got himself a box of 30 baby chicks. He had got one rooster accidentally ? a beautiful showy beast ? the Elvis of the chicken world. He was down to 17 hens when his beagle got out and killed three (she was in the doghouse over that incident for a week which was a shock to her as she is usually on the couch). Hubby was mentioning this at work and someone knew someone who was trying to get rid of their chickens ? we had 30-36 full grown chickens delivered today (for free)! In the meantime Steve bought another box of 30  baby chicks that are now almost two weeks old...and I thought the poo from 14 chickens all up the pathway to the house was bad.

The coyotes had a block party in the field next to us last night feathers all over it ? Steve is down to 17 hens. Randy shot one large male coyote ? but there are quite a few more out there ? when they all howl at night it is pretty creepy.

I suppose this could have gone on the math thread too as a take-away problem.

I like the way the beagle was "in the doghouse". Doesn't sound like a hardship for a dog...

Incidentally, I was imaging a hen with a cooking range when I misread the title of the thread as "The Chicken's Aga".
