Do you guys in the UK still have some kind of harvest festival with a day off work?
This year is the first in the last eight that I won't be going to a Harvest Festival at our village church, sadly, but now that my better half's two little 'uns are both at secondary school (and not so little any more), I'm not entitled to take up one of the limited seats for the event, that is] usually over-subscribed by the families of the local primary school kids, who always put on an utterly charming collection of songs, poems and cardboard cutout vegetables to give thanks for the annual harvest.
I'm really going to miss it. Actually, I think I already have, as I'm pretty sure it was this week. So, yes, Diane, Harvest Festivals do still go on (although I never attended any up in Scotland that I can recall), but I'm not aware of people getting the day off for them.
