The 'new kid' is back in town!

Got back from Paris late last night, despite the best attempts of Queasyjet and UK immigration. OK maybe that last bit is a slight exaggeration but it is worrying when they put your Passport on that reader thing and then wait for what seems ages before handing it back and waving you through! Your life flashes before your eyes and you wonder what the heck you might have done previously that is somewhere on a computer file. However how hard is it for an Airline to have a bus ready get you to your plane, and also to have ground staff on site at arrival to marshall you from the plane to a bus not 100 feet from the aircraft door on arrival (answers on a postcard please).

I'm gutted I didn't catch up with Egon. Was it just co-incidence he was there the same time as me?? Also I didn't quite manage to match his Gin and Peanut tally on the flight (have you seen Queasyjet prices for on-board refreshments...plus the 'other-half' wouldn't allow it!), but we didn't end up in Cardiff.

Also Tarquin has asked if 'Jerry' was my proper name - it is actually Eddie (or EDWARD if I am in trouble with the 'other half' (aka Pat, or Patricia if she is getting her Sunday name).

Happy to pull up a bar stool, but the joke book doesn't get any better! You have been warned...

Welcome again, Jerry (Eddie).  It's fun here.  Well it has been for the past year anyway.  Hope you stick it out and continue cos it's nice to have a new voice here.

I made the mistake of reading the past threads and posts to get an idea of the main players and now I can't stop.  As you have said something about yourself, can I direct you to the thread on page 15 "getting to know me".  Diane had started one a few years ago when they migrated to this forum service.  It was not appropriate to pull that thread forward so far so I made another.  There are some good questions that tell everyone about you (and may prompt a new thread?).  Feel free to add to the one I stared or start your own.  Or don't bother.  Just keep posting, unlike the many others that joined and did not post.

Once again, welcome.

Hey Jerry welcome back from Paris and Cardiff.

I have been painting my office while you were gone.

People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

Hey Jerry, welcome back - and welcome! I don't believe I've said hello yet.  If I have, then apologies. I have trouble keeping up these days. I'm one of the two Aussie Scots on here - the other one is Malc. He's a cartoonist and I'm a hanger on. ;)

Bonjour Eduoard. Hope you've recovered from your flight and that you enjoy this next trip to the land of Peep....if you thought Passport Control was difficult last night, wait till you find out what the boys have got lined up for you in the initiation ceremony here.  We girls just get to watch on the sidelines with thermos flasks and ice packs at the ready.

p.s. I'm Roger's much older, saner sister

I'm not sure that sanity and a Neil diamond obsession sit comfortably together.
Welcome back, Jerry...Edward...um...Jedward.

Jedward.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!

Why would you care Bill? It's not like you invented Jerry to be your new Bestie on Beau Peep is it.

The Nooooooo... referred to the mention of 'Jedward', a pop duo from Ireland that participated in the UK X Factor TV Talent(less) show last year.  They were crap (technical term), yet are still around.  I believe they are going to represent Ireland in this year's Eurovision Song Contest.  What fun.

Thanks for all the messages of welcome - much appreciated as it is a bit daunting to join into a well established forum. However I'm not too sure about the Thermos Flasks and icepacks:- perhaps you can give a bit more detail? On second thoughts maybe best that I don't know in advance...

It is a bit worrying that Roger suggested 'Jedward' as my name as when we were in Paris I had a 'bad hair day' and Pat kindly pointed out that I looked like the aforementioned popstars(?). Needless to say I made sure that my hair (what is left of it that is!)  was better behaved.

I have taken Bilthehutt's advice and completed the 'getting to know me' questionaire so you know what you have in store!

What is your real first name?
Edward, although I am usually called Eddie
Where do you live, where were you born?
Not so sunny Edinburgh. Was born in St Andrews, Fife
What do you do to earn a living? Do you like what you do?
At the moment nothing! I joined a certain Scottish Bank in 1975 and worked there until March 2010 when they decided I was too expensive to employ. Fortunately I got early retirement but didn’t manage to negotiate a package on the scale of Fred Goodwin. I help out in the National Trust for Scotland Collections & Conservation workshop two days a week as a volunteer meantime until I get my act together and find another job.
What do you do to fulfill the artistic side of yourself?
I can‘t paint (unless it is walls and woodwork!) but enjoy photography and also annoy the neighbours by knocking the odd tune out on keyboard and organ.
What do you do to keep fit?
What’s ‘keep fit’? I do have a routine involving a bottle of wine in one hand and a corkscrew in the other, does that count? However, I do enjoy walking, and if petrol keeps going up I’ll be doing a lot more.
Favorite junk food?
Chip butties
What do you do to make the world better?
Understand that there are all races/cultures/religions in this World, none of which are perfect. But unless we all decide to get on together we are going nowhere fast.
What books are currently on your nightstand?
I suppose I should say all the Beau Peep books, but actually it is ‘Vulcan Test Pilot’ by Tony Blackman. I’m a bit narked as I’ve got to page 106 and Mr Spock still hasn’t made an appearance...
Do you have a spouse, children, dogs, cats etc in your life?
Not got as far as tying the knot but I have a partner of some 15 years (Pat). No children but three moggies own us (Jack & Jill, both 17 years old and Sooty who was a stray but we think he is around 10).
Describe what, to you, would be a perfect weekend?
A longish lie, a fry-up for breakfast then a bracing walk in the Pentland Hills (only a couple of miles from where I live) followed by a relaxing meal with a bottle of wine.  Repeat on Sunday but with maybe a walk along Portobello beach. All with Pat of course.

And now for the serious stuff?

Who is your favourtie Beau Peep character?
The Nomad
Which BP character are you most like?
The Nomad
How many of the 20 Beau Peep books have you read?
Probably around 9 or10
Which is your favourite BP book?
No 5, for the Sherry Trifle and the Minefield strips
Have you met Roger or Andrew in real life?
Not to speak to, but I did live in Kettlebridge for several years in the late 1980’s so occasionally saw Andrew in the street.

Nice little introduction, Jerry. Apart from the damn cats.
I spent more than a few hours in the Station Inn, Kettlebridge with Andrew back in the 80's so it's surprising we never bumped into each other. (One of the Beau Peep books has a photo of Andrew and I playing pool there).
Anyway, it's great that you've joined us.

Jerry,
If you like The Nomad so much, why is your avatar Honest Abdul?
P.s. Thanks for the intro.  I'm not used to anyone taking notice of me.

Sorry Bilthehutt, I couldn't find The Nomad in the gallery so chose my second favourite, after Astro the Soothsayer.

As to my 'local' when I stayed in Kettlebridge - I worked in the great metropolis of Ladybank and The Tavern was our usual wateringhole. Many a night was spent staggering back to KB followed by a more sober walk back the next day to collect the car. Happy days!!!
