More Ramblings.
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:29:20 PM »
The new Beau Peep book has been delayed because, apparently, when you deal with Amazon, things have to be sorted out with the American IRS. I have no idea either.
I'm going to Portugal on Thursday for five days with my wife and son---hence the reason I've been a bit quiet of late. Despite giving up the writing of Andy Capp, I still find it difficult to get ahead with the other two strips. Anyway, I'm nearly there and the forecast for the Algarve next week is a steady 25 degrees. That'll do me.
I've just checked and I didn't win the lottery tonight.
I had veal for dinner this evening which I bought from a farmers' market and is guaranteed to be free-range, well looked after and older than the pork and lamb that we happily eat. It was delicious.
Tomorrow, I'm having dolphin.
I caught up with Avatar earlier this month and I thought it was extremely well done----albeit a simplistic allegory about the treatment of Native Americans in the 19th century. (See? I'm not just a cartoonist).
Okay, I'm off to practise sucking in my stomach for my poolside holiday. Standing next to my 21 year-old son---who's built like a whippet---is more than annoying.

I think Avatar is about the Alberta oil sands but carry on.
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

Actually, chickens taste like dolphin.

Roger, you didn't mention the football. You do realise you'll miss the big game against high-flying St Johnstone at Tannadice next week by buggering off to Portugal. Late booking, was it?
I apologise, in advance.

Oh, come on: it was utter shite.

Well, I've never seen Avatar, so you're one up on me, Roger. Have a lovely time in Portugal. Sounds like heaven (apart from the sucking in the tummy bit). Just avoid standing next to him when you've got your Speedos on!  ;)

I suffered a very unpleasant time on holiday when the "S" dropped of the logo on my Speedo swimming trunks once.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

One man's shite... I really enjoyed Avatar. It's no Dr Who, of course.
I apologise, in advance.

The government (aka bad people) knock down a tree and the locals get all uppity about it. It's a complete rip-off of the Tony Hancock episode, The Oak Tree.

It was transparent hokum, but there were clever and original bits - the concept of being able to transfer your personality into a giant blue being, the better to interact with a whole tribe of giant blue beings, was good.
I felt the allegory pertained to anything the Yanks have done since their push West into the territory of the Plains indians, including the Black Hills of Dakota, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, the whole lot.
As for the floating hills, I painted those exact hills in my teens. The painting was stolen from a Tesco staff locker room when I was a Trainee Manager (shelf stacker). I bet the bastard who nicked it is now working as a concept guy for Cameron.
