A big decision, Mince, but it sounds like a good one. I hope you find something.

I hope that is not some kind of advice to those on the board...

Take the opportunity and do something different with your life. Just out of interest, how did Peter react to the news?

In case that came across wrong, I was referring to the missing comma before Mincey.

It reminded me of Inspector Grim: go to 1:53 in this clip.

I understood - but part of giving up being a tutor is also stopping picking on our grandma - I suddenly feel so free!
People will come from strange lands to hear me speak my words of wisdom. They will ask me the secret of life and I will tell them. Then maybe I'll finish off with a song. The Nomad

Ah, Inspector Grim - one of the great comedy characters of the 90's, in my view, beautifully portrayed by David Haig, who had the perfect face for the part. I always looked forward to his wisdom. I knew which line you were referring to even before I watched the video (and I watched it all) - it's one of the funniest moments I can recall from any sitcom, and positively dangerous when viewed with a mouthful of beverage. Bit of a shame it was recycled to lesser effect elsewhere in the series, but a marvellous moment, none the less.
I apologise, in advance.

I always found it amusing that Ben Elton wrote this. The man who, at the beginning of his career, was openly contemptuous about the likes of Benny Hill and the "old brigade" of comedy. He then came up with this pile of juvenile double entendres, mouthed by the most cliched of characters in the most cliched of formats. Some of the stuff written for the gay policeman would have been dumped by the "Carry On" team. Perhaps it was all a clever pastiche that went over my head.

How? Do you occasionally spin round and cool people down? Or is it something more subtle?
