Help.
« on: August 09, 2013, 02:11:04 PM »
Ok, I admit defeat and ask for help. I am looking for the book number that the following is in.

1. Beau goes into doctors office and says , "Help me Doc, I think I'm depressed". (or words to that effect)

2. Beau and Doc stare silently at each other. (The pauses in the strips are just the funniest things ever...love it).

3. Doc says to Beau, "Cheer up".

I have continuously trawled through my extensive collection of BP for the last 3mins, and I'm buggered if I can find it.   ;D

OK, that's a complete guess, but imagine if I'm right!  :o

I did imagine. You were wrong. So if you'll excuse, I have to go...

...and congratulate this fine gentleman for putting me out of my misery. It's slightly different and even funnier than I remember. Now to work out how to enlarge it and hang it as a reminder. Thank you, Sir.

(Still think it would have been funnier with a pause in the middle, mind you).   ;)

I've just gone and checked this strip and I'm going to disagree with you, Sandy! I often use a pause in my writing when I want the reader to take just a split second longer to reach the punchline. (For some reason, I call these "stop frames"----I've no idea why and I made the term up). I think these are most effective when Dennis says something ridiculous and Beau then pauses before replying. In the case you mention, I think it's important that the "cheer up" line gets delivered as quickly as possible. Beau is waffling on about his depression and, for me, it works better when the doctor simply wades straight in without any thought and offers the "cheer up" solution. Well, that's my..........................opinion.

And what would you know about these things? Do you know who some of the people are on this board?  ;D ;D ;D

(It's still my favourite. It's just brilliant.)   ;)

I prefer it with the pause, as though the Doctor is taking the time to think about what to say, and then the best advice he can muster is "cheer up".

But then, like Mr. Buttcheeks, I am a fan of the "stop frames".
