Off the top of my head, I seem to recall that De Rudio was buried in San Francisco. He was a truly fascinating man who led an astonishing life. I have a biography called "Alien Horseman" which would provide me with the answers to your questions. If only I could be bothered looking for it...

Ages, that took me. I was so proud of Question 2.

Just gutted.

I bet he knew where the book was as well.

Mince, I tried to answer this earlier but there was some sort of problem. Anyway, I'll try to get round to these questions soon. I've been dealing with a really time-consuming, stressful and downright annoying contractual situation.  Give me a day or two.

Yes, the site went down three times in as many days. I am currently monitoring the site every five minutes to record downtime, and if it becomes excessive, I shall personally move everything to a better host.

No problem. You've probably just misplaced the book.  :)

Well, there's two hours of my life I won't get back...
1) Thomas O'Neil.
2) No idea.
3) San Francisco.
4) Sometime in February 1870.
5) 71.

The question about De Rudio's cane is interesting but I couldn't find any reference to it in the books I checked. (I have over 200 books about Custer----it might have taken a while to check them all). If I had to guess, I would say the cane was mounted with something connected to his Italian heritage. I'm going to lie down now.

But you feel strangely momentarily brainy on your specialised subject nonetheless.

1) Thomas O'Neil.    CORRECT
2) No idea.
3) San Francisco.    CORRECT
4) Sometime in February 1870.    GOOD ENOUGH June 25th 1870
5) 71  CORRECT

The question about De Rudio's cane is interesting but I couldn't find any reference to it in the books I checked.

Clearly the 'book' you had didn't have the information that my book has, namely Warman's Antiques & Collectibles 2012 Price Guide.  8)

I have over 200 books about Custer

And you have read them all? I assume you have a spare room for this hoarding?

I hope I didn't make it more stressful. :-[

But it was fun setting the quiz, and beating you on one question.
