Mother Nature's all very nice but...

...there's a limit.

The first two pictures are of a small 'bird bath' I keep at the bottom of my garden, and fair enough it's a delight to see them taking a drink and occasionally having a splash about.

Then we come to my second favourite water feature in my garden, the favourite I much prefer but as it doesn't feature in this post, other than being my favourite, no picture.   My second favourite water feature is featured in the rest of the pictures.   Again it is totally delightful to see the birds arrive and have a drink from this feature, even more delightful when more than one appears and they splash around either cooling down or cleaning up, I'm never sure.

Then there's the less than delightful, for some reason it is also apparently a good place, at least for our avian friends, to defecate...   And that's when the limit hits.  I have tried remonstrating with them, to no avail, I clearly lack avian empathy.   My role seems to have reduced to that of Janitor, "top up the water" "ensure the pump is switched on" and, delight of delights "make sure the pump is clear of any and all blockages'"

I kid you not, every few days in summer the water pump clogs and yours truly slips on the janitorial overalls and clears out the avian "deposits", Mother Nature my... [or possibly theirs...]

Really nice photos, Red. From an ornithological point of view, I would have preferred golden eagles or Egyptian vultures rather than sparrows. Build a bigger bird bath and they will come....

Eagles and vultures are bigger but they don't have the speed or tenacity of a sparrow. If he built a bigger bird bath, the sparrows would just drop kick them off it: I've seen them do it many a time - absolute vicious buggers with their leg sweeps and roundhouse wings.

Brave film reference Roger, but with all the will in the world, this is a small rock I am balancing on, sneeze too violently and you're flotsam.  Best I can offer is some birds of prey from Crete, spot the escapee.

We should have a "worst avian poo competition" but given this is a rock sticking out of the Irish Sea, with an accompanying seagull population I suspect I might win!   We get sparrows and starlings mostly, drinking and washing and... so I guess Meatloaf was right, "two out of three ain't bad<-
