I asked someone who I thought should know but they didn't know either.

If you remember mushy peas long before they were ever in tins.......dried peas soaked overnight
then cooked for 3 hours, you'll know exactly why they have sugar in! :o

A bit of vinegar would solve that problem.

I had mushy peas last Friday. We had lunch in the city at a place called Joey's Only. My daughter and I were on a grad dress (yes, for NEXT June) shopping trip and had given up at that point. Had the fish and mushy peas and then tried a different shop that the waitress told us about - got much better service, much better price and found the only dress that made us both a bit weepy - it may have been the dress or the residual effects of the mushy peas.

It is crazy I know - with my boys we went to the city a week or two before grad and picked out a suit, shirt, tie and shoes, they hemmed them that day and you went back in to pick up your items - for dresses, first you have to tell them what school you go to to see if you are even allowed to buy the dress or if someone else has spoken for it, then you have to put down a 50% deposit because the dresses are not yet made but are "next year's models" like cars. I am glad someone told me or this or we would have been in a pickle next May or June.

Yes, mushy peas can have that effect - I guess that's why they're called 'mushy'. I remember once when I had mushy peas on the way back from the pub: they fell out of my hand, splattered over the floor, and I was a bit weepy the whole way home.

A bit of vinegar would solve that problem.
My aunt, who lived well into her 90's, used to swear by vinegar and could be seen swigging it most
days!
I seem to have followed in her foot steps and often enjoy drinking the vinegar left in the jar when
all the beetroot has gone!

Well, she may have been onto something, since it helps artery function and blood sugar control.

Well, my wee Glaswegian Grannie used it to clean her windows, along with sheets of newspaper. I thought she was joking, and that it sounded like a recipe for the dirtiest windows in Partick. But it worked an absolute treat!
I apologise, in advance.

My mother did the same until she got lazy and hired a window cleaner. I'll tell you this, his corners never sparkled like ma mithers !

In fairness, it was nice to walk into the house without your eyes watering though... (y)

My grannie cleaned her windows with nitroglycerin. She only did it the once, and they were so clean it was as though they were not there.
