Back from Portuguese holiday.

Last Wednesday in the Algarve, the temperature hit 40 degrees (104 Fahrenheit). I had no choice. The ice-cold beer was a medical necessity.

Did you sip it, hold it to your forehead or bathe in it?

I had garlic bread last week. When I opened the oven door, I had to recoil from the heat blast. Reckon it must have been over 170 Fahrenheit!

Algarve? Pffft!
I apologise, in advance.

Tarks, last Thursday evening, my wife and I were sitting in an Albufeira bar, watching Dundee United v. Inverness Caledonian Thistle. (I can't tell you how much my dear lady enjoyed that!) When United opened the scoring, a young lad of about 10 jumped up to celebrate. I gave him the thumbs-up and asked if he was a United supporter. Turns out he was one of your lot, mate, a St Johnstone fan. He hates Dundee so much he wanted United to be promoted just to annoy them! You're a weird bunch!

By the way, I picked up an English copy of The Sun and saw your Boris-themed cartoon. As always, absolutely brilliant.

Too kind, Roger - thank you.

I have to admit I share the young laddie's sentiments. Dundee United have been away from their natural home way too long, and I miss beating them. I was sad to lose next year's derby matches as your Dens Park neighbours waved goodbye to the Premiership this year, and so I'd be delighted if United can make it back from the Wilderness, and we can shout abuse across respective parks at each other three or four times a season.

Bring it on! Fingers crossed.
I apologise, in advance.

It took a while to realise that Dundee United and United are terms used to refer to Dundee United, and Dundee is not.

From now on if I use the name Roger Kettle or Kettle, I'm referring to the guy quoted above, but if I use the name Roger, I'm referring to the late Roger Lloyd-Pack from Only Fools and Horses.

Mince, I have long known that you are baffled by any reference to football. For that reason, my post was addressed to Tarks. It was my way of politely saying "Move along, Mince, nothing for you to see here." In future, I will place (F) at the end of the heading to let you know there is mild football content or (FF) if the post is largely about football.

Word to the wise, folks...nobody mention football for at least the next couple of months. Or there may be penalties...
I apologise, in advance.

I'm fine. The window isn't. Neither is the television.

I was genuinely disappointed, Roger. Horrible way to miss out. At least you’ll have the Tayside derbies next season. Going to miss those.
I apologise, in advance.
