Misheard Lyrics.
« on: September 22, 2007, 08:09:34 PM »
I mentioned this once before on another forum a while ago. I've just been listening to some Stevie Wonder on my new  ;D iPod, and was reminded how I always used to think he was singing "Boogie on, Reginald Bosanquet", when in fact it was "Boogie on Reggae Woman".

In fact I still sing the wrong words in my head. Did anyone else mishear song lyrics?

Never mind misheard lyrics, Stevie Wonder also wrote, "Lately I've been staring in my mirror..."    :-\
I apologise, in advance.

Anything that doesn't involve staring.

Hmm - you've lost me. I mean, you can't cycle in your mirror, or hang-glide in your mirror. Staring into your mirror sounds pretty logical...

This is probably my favourite Stevie Wonder song. Tarks - you might like the lyrics. I love the tune, and the gospel style of the chorus. I sing the chorus at the top of my head in the car!

"Feel it... Feel His spirit"! It's uplifting, even for agnostics, I'd imagine.

Nostalgia is not what it used to be. 😟

Okay - I just thought it was an odd lyric for Stevie Wonder to write, Peepsie. You have seen him perform I take it?

No, unfortunately not. I have to say, I haven't liked the stuff he's been producing in later years - especially the trite "I just called to say I love you". Yuk.

However, in the 70's his stuff was excellent. Music of My Mind, Innervisions, Talking Book, Fullfillingnesses' First Finale", for example. The hairy-metal stars of the day like Clapton, George Harrison etc., were turning up at his concerts to gaze in awe. He crossed some boundaries, wrote some fab tunes, and took Motown to a new level.

For ages I thought, "Good Steve McQueen" was "God save the Queen".

Have you seen Stevie's wife?

Alright, no more.

I don't mean she's just alright and no more, I mean...

I once got the late night bus from Irvine to Saltcoats and had to endure a drunk on the top deck singing "Free As A Spaniel" to the tune of Viva Espana.
