I've drawn a cartoon (I have no idea who to sell it to) but that's not the problem.
The cartoon features a science/maths lecturer in front of his students who's just laid out a massive formula on the blackboard, all weird signs and brackets. At the end he has written the lengthy equation's conclusion which is "Bush Is An Asshole".
A stern secretary-type woman stands at the door and she delivers the punchline which is: "Mister Hopkins, the Dean would like to see you".
Is that enough? If you think so, I'll leave it at that.
I was looking for a phrase that scientists use to describe the integrity of successful mathematical formulae, something along the lines of "the science is solid" or the science is cast iron". In other words, they have done their homework thoroughly, and the figures are irrefutable.
I'm looking for that pithy phrase. Anyone?
