I have always wondered what Peepmaster did in his early years.

Automan, Streethawk, Manimal, Airwolf, Blue Thunder and Magnum PI. To name but a few.

It was a bit limp, as though it had not been thought through properly.

It also suffered from needless repetition.

I have decided to expand. This is a great sketch---and not just because of Newhart's delivery which, as always, is nigh on perfect. It lampoons the ridiculous amounts of money psychiatrists charge, the Freudian (or Jungian) theories they desperately try to attach to any condition and the over-complication of even the simplest of problems.
"Stop it."
That's just a great solution to ANY problem.

I liked the idea.

But I disagree with you on Newharts delivery. Half the time he looked as though he had forgotten his lines. It simply does not match the sheer brilliance of his timing, intonation and delivery in his monologues.

Well, you have to accept that this was probably a sketch show where he was handed a script with little time to rehearse and was using cue-cards. I still think he was great.
By the way, do you think if I'D typed "Newharts delivery" without an apostrophe, you'd have let it pass without comment?
