Actually, since recent events over the past few years, that's one of the things you're highly unlikely to see in Beau Peep. After 9/11 the Nomad almost got dropped from the strip.
-
Is this because he is always trying to blow up the fort?
You gotta be kidding me.
-
Yes, but trying to do it by flying a Fokker into the ramparts?...
Bloody Al Qaeda - gag terrorists.
-
After the Gulf Wars and 9/11, it became a little insensitve to show an Arabic character running around threatening to "slaughter everyone in the fort". Okay, he's a North African nomad and hopelessly inept at everything he does but it was no longer a comical image. These days, I focus on other areas of The Nomad's lunacy like his book-writing and business ventures.
-
... and hopelessly inept at everything he does...
He wasn't always a Dundee United player though, was he?
-
I'm surprised you did not also get rid of Colonel Escargot, what with Bush still being in power.
-
Hopelessly inept is what Dundee United players aspire to.
As for the Bush/Escargot comparison----well, some things just can't be satirised.
-
Shall we let them know that the nickname for your beloved Dundee Utd is "the Nomads", Roger?
-
"The Arabs", Nige!
-
"The Arabs", Nige!
Oh - I was close! )(I thought it was "The Nomads")

Why the A rabs
-
Something to do with the tons of sand that were spread on the pitch in the early sixties to try and beat the weather conditions.
-
Why the A rabs
A lot of folk who go to watch them are called Rab, as in Rab C Nesbitt. It's A "Rab's" club. At one of their AGMs they decided to shorten this to A rabs, and it stuck.

Or it might have been that! The sand-spreading was so entertaining they had their biggest crowd for years...
