Title: Junior Football
Post by: Malc on March 30, 2009, 03:35:48 PM
As some may know, I coach football, and last year I looked after a ladies team, much to the chagrin of my wife, mostly because she knew it would mean my missing some of my two sons' games.

This year I decided I would coach my younger son Aidan's Under 14 team (my older boy is lost to me, he has become a feral git) and tonight we took on our club's U16 side and BEAT them 1-0.

Not only that, the ref, a total crook and U16 parent, awarded a penalty for handball against a kid when the ball was being played OUT of the penalty box.

This disgusting attempt at levelling the score to save face was defeated when our goalie Tom dived low to his right and SAVED it.

Michty me, whit a braw nicht! as Oor Wullie would say.

Sounds like a Disney Movie  ;D

I can relate to the older kid "feral git" comment, only mine is a "surly git".

I'm glad justice was served, Malc.  Hope the season goes well.  The "git" will get better in my experience, but I'm still waiting for a complete transformation - mine's 22.

They transform in their late 30's, early 40's - probably 'coz they're too old to do anything 'git-ish'!

I'm hoping he will rehabilitate sooner than that.

He actually came into my office today so that I could show him on my whiteboard how he should play midfield (he has been switched from fullback by his coach and is a bit nervous) so I haven't lost complete faith in his potential as a human.

They have their moments, Malc, some of them wonderful.  They're only like that with family, I reckon.  I'm not going to give his sister the word "git", which she would never have heard.  She'd have a field day with it.

Ciaran's definitely only a git with his family. To everyone else he's sweetness and light.
